View all aging resources here: https://loom.ly/3rDr_V0 Specialized designs and technologies, often mandated by the ADA Accessibility Standards, are inadequate to meet the needs and abilities of older adults. In contrast, universal design is an appropriate, but underused strategy. On the one hand, universal design is seen as merely another name for specialized designed, while on the other hand, it has been dismissed as an unattainable utopian panacea. Visit our Impact of Aging toolbox - open to all thanks to our sponsor Patcraft - and watch the Design for One is Design for All: The Past, Present and Future of Universal Design for Aging webinar to learn about UD, why its potential to be a panacea for design for aging is unattainable in the physical world, and how it is poised to become a reality and fulfill its promise through the world of digital technologies.

Harold Adams Endowed Full Professor in Urban Planning and Computer Science, Texas A&M University; Fellow, American Association of Geographers; Fellow, Royal Geographical Society
Our new paper "Unraveling the impact of urban form on location's irreplaceability: An analysis from the perspective of spatiotemporal heterogeneity" published in Transactions in GIS examines how unique characteristics of a location make it hard to replace in terms of services and needs. It measures irreplaceability using mobile phone data and analyzes urban design factors. The study finds that irreplaceability varies over time and space. These findings have practical implications for urban planning, including optimizing space and reducing traffic congestion. Please cite: Wu, C., Gao, F., Ye, X., & He, Q. (2024). Here is the latest scoop from VergeSense - the new Occupancy Intelligence Index is out! 🌎 With insights drawn from over 100M+ sqft of office space spanning 200+ enterprises and more than 50 countries, it’s nothing short of a masterclass in understanding global workspace trends. The deep dive into space design is grabbing my attention this time. Even with plenty of room to play with, crafting spaces that truly resonate with what employees want is still quite the head-scratcher. It’s a pivotal discussion for us in the industry. I’m convinced the fresh data from this index could be the compass we need to navigate toward more dynamic, employee-centered work environments.
Excited to share the latest VergeSense Occupancy Intelligence Index! This is the most comprehensive occupancy dataset on the planet. In the index, we analyze patterns across 100M+ sqft, 200+ enterprise and over 50 countries, with a quality & resolution that only VergeSense can provide. The big theme for this version of the index is space design. While we have enough available capacity, as an industry we still haven't figured out the right MIX of space that meets what employees need. Check it out at the link below and feel free to leave a comment if anything jumps out! https://lnkd.in/ebtXFbdT

Have you read the results of the Global Gathering survey yet? Head to the women in lighting website and check it out! https://lnkd.in/edN_HDQv Today, we spotlight those amazing hoodies, designed and made by formalighting, with a QR code on a tag that leads you to the survey. They were a massive hit at Light & Building, and we extend a BIG THANK YOU to all of you for sharing your lovely photos with them Any hoody photos, please email it to us at hello@womeninlighting.com Almost 800 people completed the survey from 73 countries. The majority of people completing the form were women (69.1%), possibly because the survey originated from the WIL project. So, despite our attempt at inclusive messaging, we didn’t quite nail getting an equal number of men to contribute. We are not data experts, so the pages are not analyzed or accompanied by judgment. They present the data as given and are therefore available for those interested to interpret as applicable. We have tried to intersect some of the data we found particularly interesting. If there is something you would like to know that we have missed or is of particular interest to you, please contact us. We are happy to share data (in specific slices and anonymized) so you can perform your analyses. The Women in Lighting team: Light Collective formalighting Archifos Camila Blanco Cristina A.
