Photography has often been used to document and catalogue—through a white-centric viewpoint—the histories of communities that were deemed foreign. On June 6, at 6:30 PM, join Angelina Ruiz in the ICP library for “Decolonizing Photography: Exploring the Impact of Eurocentrism on Archive." Ruiz will examine the visual iterations of marginalized people throughout history, and way to comb through these histories to reclaim this colonized gaze and change the narrative of archival photography. Followed by Q&A. Ruiz also teaches Decolonizing Photography this summer at ICP. Learn more and register: https://bit.ly/3R4xCxd.

#WorldPhotographyDay (August 19th, 2024) The World Photo Day is an annual, worldwide celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography. Photography changed our vision of the world, capturing people and places in real time. But with the passing of time, some photographs fade. See how an image may be recovered using the power of an M4 TORNADO especially configured to meet the needs of this heavily faded and damaged historical photograph. The silver X-ray map is able to reproduce the faded portions of the image, while the distribution of iodine in the photograph may provide clues about why this image faded over time. Each panel 30x44.5" ( 96" Wide) "These photographs are of reflections; The River becomes a portal into a reversed other world, a kind of fractured looking glass and a glimpse into our possible future. This duality of line and photographic subject is one of the mysterious things photography can achieve which (for me) no other art form can match". #trees #river #landscapephotography #artexhibition #photoexhibition #contemporaryphotography #contemporaryart #phillyartist #photographyexhibition #thomasbrummett #documentaryphotography #water #landscapephotography #artexhibition #contemporaryart · 1h

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking word Photography literally means 'drawing with light', which derives from the Greek photo, meaning light and graph, meaning to draw. Photography is the process of recording an image – a photograph – on lightsensitive film or, in the case of digital photography, via a digital electronic or magnetic memory.Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film.

Photography, a timeless art, transcends mere documentation, acting as a conduit for history's whispers into the future's awaiting ears. With each click of the shutter, it captures fleeting moments, imprisoning them in a frame where past meets present, and future gazes upon the echoes of yesteryears. Through the lens, memories morph into tangible relics, weaving narratives that bridge the chasm between bygone eras and the yet-to-be-written chapters of tomorrow. It freezes time's ceaseless dance, offering a glimpse into the soul of humanity across epochs. Photography, indeed, is the sublime teleporter of the past, enriching the tapestry of the future.

THE FIRST PHOTOGRAPH | पहली तस्वीर | @voicetalent_ben The dawn of photography: In 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce captured "View from the Window at Le Gras," the world's first permanent photograph. This groundbreaking image, created through a process called heliography, opened a new chapter in visual history. I can elaborate on any aspect of this if you'd like - for example, more details on Niépce's process, the historical context, or the image's significance. Let me know if you need anything else for your video. https://lnkd.in/gzhux6uM #all #everyone
