First meeting to launch the WEnnovate project as a member of the project team. From January 8 to 10, 2024, the first team meeting took place in Budapest (Hungary) within the framework of the project "Co-creating more connected ecosystems towards European innovation (WEnnovate)", funded by the European Union under grant agreement No. 101134909. Design Terminal is an international innovation agency focused on entrepreneurship development. The company creates value for different types of partners in the same way: by identifying innovation challenges and finding the best people to solve them. Design Terminal believes that innovative solutions are born in optimistic communities. All programs leverage the power of personal connections and networks. Representatives of the UAC took part in the first project launch meeting as a member of the project team, made a presentation of the developed methodology and moderated its further discussion. Natalia Garashchenko is the Head of the Training and Innovation Laboratory of the STC of the UAC: "It was very interesting to listen to the presentations of the energy reviews in each country, but they can be summarized in one thesis: the project should focus on local energy. For their part, the foreign partners were impressed by the pace of modernization of the Ukrainian regulatory framework, which we presented in the context of the review of our energy system, and noted that they have a lot to learn from Ukraine." Volodymyr Nochvay is the Head of the Open Innovation Lab at KAU: "In this project, we will be interested in innovative startups both as consumers and as providers of services and solutions for communities of different levels related to energy. These can be any alternative energy sources, but with a focus on local level networks. We will be happy to cooperate with individual cases and support them in scaling up through consultations and consortium partners. The project consortium consists of a group of professionals who have a good understanding of the priorities and trends in the EU energy sector." Today, the Canada Foundation for Innovation/Fondation canadienne pour l'innovation announced an investment of nearly $10.3 million through its Innovation Fund towards infrastructure that supports fundamental and applied science, as well as technology development at research facilities across Canada. Of this funding, OTN has received $2 million to facilitate upgrades and replacements to its tracking infrastructure. These upgrades are essential for enhancing research capacity and enabling OTN to maintain and evolve its world-class platform. New equipment purchases will expand OTN’s unique equipment loaner program, add an additional Slocum glider to OTN’s glider fleet, and support essential upgrades to aged infrastructure. We are proud to announce the signature at #GGF23 of a €40m investment grant, between the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB), GÉANT and AFR-IX telecom on the #MEDUSA Submarine Cable Project to boost trans-Mediterranean R&E connectivity. Estimated at a total build cost of €342m, MEDUSA is the EC’s first digital #GlobalGateway project, aiming to connect North Africa and the European Union with a high-capacity fiber optic submarine cable system with the €40m grant contribution provided by the EC supporting specifically #research and #education collaborations across the two shores of the #Mediterranean. We connect visions for a sustainable future! 💡 We had a strategic meeting with Sergio Gómez, Natalia Bárcenas and José Gonzales representatives of the Subdirection of Cooperation and Agreements of the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (AMVA), together with Fernando Macho Hernantes, CEO of Quantum Artificial Intelligence, Ms. Monika Purchala, International Cooperation Manager of the Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture Network - BERSTIC and Prof. Dr. Fernando Colmenares, CEO and Founder of the BERSTIC Network. We addressed crucial topics such as circular economy, energy, water production and the use of coffee biomass. In this context, we socialised the projects that Engineering Research Institute - In³ -, a member of our network, has underway. In addition, we shared the international cooperation and science diplomacy projects of Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, implemented in the BERSTIC Network. These represent an excellent opportunity for the AMVA to connect with Europe. It is not only about projects, but also about training and governance!
