🌱 To combat climate change and reduce #environmental impact, it's important to transform the way we produce #biomass for food, feed, chemicals and energy. #Sustainable practices are key to ensuring that production meets the best environmental, social and economic standards. That is why we at #ISCC follow six principles. While Principle 1 addresses the European Commission's Renewable Energy Directive (#RED II), Principles 2-6 are the result of a collaborative effort in a multi-stakeholder dialogue and go beyond legal requirements! 🔍 The bottom line? ISCC #certification has a direct impact on the environmental, social and economic performance of farms and plantations. Let's work together to promote sustainable practices and build a future of responsible biomass production.

Senior leader working on climate adaptation, net zero and green finance. Born at 331.13ppm global C02 concentration
We've updated our guidance on post-combustion carbon dioxide capture. The updated guidance covers post-combustion carbon dioxide plants that use amine-based technologies to capture CO2 from the flue gases of power and CHP plants fuelled by natural gas and biomass, and energy from waste plants The main updates include: *Changing the title from ‘best available techniques’ to ‘emerging techniques’ *Adding additional content relating to carbon capture at energy from waste plants *Providing further clarification around expected CO2 capture rates *Improved some sections following industry feedback Operators wishing to capture carbon dioxide from their combustion process in England will need an environmental permit from us. The updated guidance will help businesses to understand the regulatory requirements that need to be met before being granted a permit. The updated guidance can also be used by other organisations and members of the public who want to understand how the environmental regulations and standards are being applied. We expect operators to follow this guidance, or to propose an alternative approach to provide the same or greater level of protection for the environment. The updated guidance can be accessed on GOV.UK here. https://lnkd.in/ep8JwF5E Well done to the #EATeam who worked on this, including John Barraclough MSc MIEMA CEnv, Bruce Bethune, Jane Durling, Charlie Sholl, Gwenda McIntyre, Emma Pemberton, and Stephano Francesco. As utilities seek to balance methane mitigation with achieving SDG6, increasing numbers are investigating the climate impact of their own wastewater and sludge treatment processes. A recent white paper from Global Water Intelligence suggests that the water industry contributes 4.7% of total global methane emissions on an annual basis, with a significant number coming from onsite sanitation systems. The technologies available seek to improve yields of collected biogas and create a useful product – energy. GWI examines the emerging and established options for the water sector. #Methane #GHG #Emissions #CircularEconomy

Of the nearly 500 million tonnes of greenhouse gasses that Australia emits each year, methane accounts for around 21%. * In Australia, the largest sources of methane are from the waste, agriculture, and energy sectors. 🗑️🐄💡 LMS Energy is a pioneer and world leader in capturing methane from landfills and using it to make renewable energy. We are also developing new technologies to expand our methane abatement into the agriculture and mining sectors. ♻️ We want to see as little waste as possible end up in landfill. However, while waste is still being generated and appropriate recycling schemes are still being developed, it’s vital that the methane that landfills produce is captured and destroyed. *From the most current Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) National Inventory Report 2022, p. 54, 58.

It’s a logical solution, too many humans not reducing their carbon footprints fast enough. Turn their dumps into Biochar avoiding methane production and water pollution, generate heat and power from it and use it to increase food security safely when applied to the soil . Nice and circular.
PYREG partners with Orbital Biocarbon to transform U.S. wastewater sludge into #PFAS-free #biochar, using innovative carbonization technology. This cost-effective, EPA-validated process not only complies with new regulations but also produces renewable energy and CO2 credits, enhancing #publichealth and environmental sustainability. https://lnkd.in/gnPW9-TH

📢 Britain's Path to Clean Energy The Climate Change Committee's recent report rings alarm bells - just a third of the required emissions reductions are within current policy. Immediate action is vital for delivering our Net Zero goals. Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) has a pivotal role in this mission. Industry insights and the latest data from the National Engineering Policy Centre underline BECCS's strategic importance. Sustainable deployment is crucial, and the UK already leads with world-class bioenergy sustainability governance. Creating policy stability allows for investment in BECCS, maintaining biomass generation, and cultivating innovative crops. We must leave behind the "stop-go" mindset and embrace long-term, clear policies. 💬 Let's discuss: How can we ensure BECCS is implemented efficiently? #CleanEnergy #NetZero #Sustainability

The EU has pledged to import half of its target of 20 million tonnes of hydrogen used per year by 2030 in order to reduce CO2 emissions — but shipping H2 via carriers such as ammonia, methanol, or synthetic natural gas (SNG) could come with far worse environmental impacts compared to domestic production. This is according to a new report by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, which sets out lifecycle analysis for not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but also environmental consequences. Green fuels and brown environment?

Carbon removal certification is on the way in the EU.
In another major milestone moment, earlier this week, the European Union concluded its negotiations on the regulatory framework for high quality carbon removal certification. Biomass Projects and TAKE Global are delighted to see the inclusion and acknowledgment of biochar as a key method that is ready here and now. Much work has been done within the global community as the industry moves towards scale and quality production, and we are excited to be leading the movement with colleagues here in Australia.
