Who is working on greening #ICT4D? I'd like to feature this topic at the upcoming ICT4D Conference, so keen to get recommendations for folks who are engaged in everything from greening their supply chains, to thinking through what our increased reliance on #AI means for the #climate and how #digital transformation can be done sustainably - and everything in between! To be clear - not focused on how we can leverage technology to tackle climate change, but how we ensure our use of digital doesn't contribute to climate change.

🌍 It is a really eye-opening article from Sifted (link is below). Mitigation and adaptation are both incredibly important. While humanity focuses more on mitigating climate change, which is crucial, we sometimes forget that we can only slow it down, not stop it entirely. This is where adaptation comes into play. In my opinion, the development of more technology innovations is imperative to help humanity adapt to the inevitable climate change and ensure long-term survival. ☝ Despite only 7.5% of the global climate tech funding being allocated to adaptation technology, as highlighted in the insightful article by Sifted, there is vast potential in this area. Could adaptation technology be the next big thing in climate tech? I am eagerly looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. Wonderful to be in BusinessGreen talking about the nexus between #AI and #energy and about how the AI revolution and the #energytransition have become deeply intertwined, with each driving the success of the other. In fact, as AI becomes more integral to the modern economy, I believe countries will not be able to achieve one without the other. I think what's so interesting about this topic is that it not only makes AI more #sustainable, but by thinking about these issues together, governments have a real opportunity to drive AI development and clean-energy advancements together. In this piece, I argue that for governments to do this, they need to: 1) stop treating these as separate issues - governments need integrated, strategic planning and government focus at this nexus 2) get an accurate picture of the scale and scope of AI’s emissions and energy usage to formulate the right policy interventions – you can’t manage what you don’t measure 3) ensure energy investment and AI development are moving together 4) accelerate innovation Tell me what you think!
