Polycarbonate is a strong, lightweight plastic material that can be molded to the shape of the injured body part. This allows for a customized fit. The thermoplastic nature of polycarbonate allows the splint to be remolded and adjusted as needed during the healing process as swelling goes down. Polycarbonate splints are more durable and less bulky than traditional plaster or fiberglass casts. They resist cracks and fractures.
