Are you ready for the SIRE 2.0 launch?    SIRE 2.0 will launch on September 2nd, 2024, replacing the existing SIRE system as the commercial tanker inspection programme.     To help prepare for the launch, it is essential that all Programme Participants, Programme Recipients, Vessel Operators, and Inspectors familiarise themselves with the many ways in which the new SIRE 2.0 inspection will differ from the existing SIRE VIQ7 programme.     Witherbys recommends the following titles to help you get prepared:  'Ship Vetting and its Application to LNG' from accredited OCIMF SIRE inspector, Captain Juan P. Presedo, describes changes introduced by SIRE 2.0 to assist stakeholders in understanding the impact on their vetting processes. INTERTANKO’s 'Seafarers' Practical Guide to SIRE 2.0 Inspections’ assists those serving on board oil, chemical and gas tankers to prepare for a vessel's SIRE 2.0 ship inspection. The 2024 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea is to go to two sets of nominees: The Captain and crew of the oil tanker Marlin Luanda, for containing a fire after the ship was struck by an anti-ship missile; and the Captain and crew of the tugboat Pemex Maya, for their rescue of six shipwrecked persons from four different vessels, during a hurricane.
