Captain Ashley Cooper, Group Marine Director at Scorpio Ship Management and Vice-Chairman of the INTERTANKO Vetting Committee, chaired the INTERTANKO Seafarers’ Seminar held in Mumbai on October 25, 2024.   The seminar, which took place at the JW Marriott Juhu, brought together over 300 attendees, including seafarers and industry representatives, and featured keynote presentations by the attending luminaries. Capt. Cooper moderated a panel discussion on seafarer well-being, featuring Mr. Shyam Jagannathan, India’s Director General of Shipping; Dr. Nirupama Mankad from the Sailor’s Society; and Dr. Phil Belcher, Marine Director at INTERTANKO.    There was also an eagerly awaited panel session on Sire 2.0 implementation featuring Capt. Capt. Aaron Cooper, AFNI Director and Mr. Fahmi Tarmisi, Programmes Technical Manager of OCIMF; Capt. Frans Ubaghs and Mr. Sokratis Tzanetos Vetting Managers of INTERTANKO and Capt. INTERTANKO opens its Ports with Challenging Water Quality (PCWQ) Database to industry stakeholders INTERTANKO is opening its Ports with Challenging Water Quality (PCWQ) Database non-members in a bid to increase the quantity and applicability, further representing the daily issues that ballast water management systems are facing in PCWQ. From 24 October, any shipowner can contribute to the results by submitting their own reports. The database is designed to support vessels calling at ports that cause Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) to run sub-optimally due to challenging water quality conditions when taking on ballast. The database will aid ships in their due diligence and voyage planning preparation and facilitate communication with both Port State Control (PSC) authorities and flag Administrations. The Seafarers' Practical Guide to SIRE 2.0 Inspections contains 400+ pages of practical help to identify which inspection questions are core, hardware, process, or human-related – all illustrated by pictogram. For every question, a corresponding set of practical guidelines is designed to help staff and operators prepare for a vessel’s SIRE 2.0 inspection.

We are delighted to be collaborating with DNV’s Veracity, making it easier for tanker operators to share emissions data. The collaboration enables Members to benchmark their fleets on CII, efficiency, and fuel consumption with greater ease and accuracy.

It is a testament to their bravery that this action resulted in no loss of life, the saving of the ship, the prevention of catastrophic damage to the environment and the removal of a propaganda coup for the attackers.
