The Asia-Pacific Cardiovascular Disease Alliance, for which ACCESS Health International is the Secretariat, had the opportunity to present their report findings at the recent Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology Congress and Emirates Cardiac Society Congress in Dubai. The Alliance aims to advocate for a cohesive multi-sectoral strategy to address gaps in national policies as the cardiovascular (CVD) burden in the region grows rapidly. Titled, “A Call for Cohesive Action: Redefining Cardiovascular Care in the Asia-Pacific” the report aims to answer pressing questions like: How can we address the burden of CVD to reduce premature deaths, and hospitalizations while slowing the growth of new patients? What are the priorities that governments should focus on to achieve these outcomes while ensuring that patients are at the center of care? How can we achieve seamless care for patients? Several topics in the Alliance report were spotlighted in discussions during the conference including – CVD risks in women; the rise in cardiometabolic diseases; primary and secondary prevention; and the digital health tools for telecardiology. Our mixed-methods study on experiences, use behaviour, and future perspectives of remote monitoring in cystic fibrosis care is now online! In this study, we evaluated the use of remote monitoring in five Dutch CF centres since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. A lot has changed since then: the digital transition of our health system is now going faster than ever, and new CFTR-modulator drugs continue to transform the landscape of CF care. In our study, we combine the experiences and opinions of both people with CF and healthcare professionals to find digital health solutions that accommodate both transitions. We present four practice-based strategies for remote monitoring that will help policymakers, clinicians, and patients align remote monitoring with their active needs and capacities, for CF and other chronic respiratory diseases. Women with asthma are an understudied population. Paraspinal muscle density (PSMD) is a marker of skeletal muscle adiposity and can be measured on routine CT imaging in hounsfields units in the paraspinal muscles at the level of the 12th thoracic vertebra. A previous study (Tattersall, AJRCCM) showed that longitudinal lung function decline assessed using spirometry is associated with lower PSMD in women with asthma. However there were no differences in absolute spirometry values comparing those with high versus low PSMD. Here we repeat the analysis in our Tayside patients and show significant differences in airway oscillometry measurements comparing high and low PSMD groups in women with asthma. A further study idea might be to incorporate both body mass index (BMI) and PSMD to ascertain whether women with asthma who exhibit both high BMI and low PSMD have the worst asthma outcomes.

Pancreatitis-induced splenic vein thrombosis (PISVT) is an acquired disorder that occurs due to acute pancreatitis. This paper presents a case report of a 37-year-old female patient who came with acute necrotizing pancreatitis secondary to hypertriglyceridemia and was developed severe ileus with splenic vein thrombosis during the hospitalization, highlighting complications that happened and the management that was given.
