Cordia owns and operates seven major energy systems in Pittsburgh, with significant advancements in the last five years. The four interconnected downtown systems – Duquesne University, Uptown Plant, Golden Triangle, and the Allegheny County system – form the Downtown Pittsburgh system. This integration brings enhanced efficiencies and economies of scale to our valued customers. Recently, we acquired three additional microgrid and district energy systems from Essential Utilities, Inc., further solidifying our presence in Allegheny County. These include: Pittsburgh International Airport Microgrid, Allegheny Health Network Wexford Hospital district energy system, and Allegheny County District Energy System These acquisitions are designed to provide efficient and resilient energy solutions to the region. How many solar panels does it take to reach 3.3 gigawatts of installed solar capacity? 1.9 million panels! US has the largest solar and battery energy storage at 3.3 gigawatts followed by China at 2.8 and India at 2.7 gigawatts. This is enough energy capacity to power over 225k homes and say 320 tonnes of carbon emissions. Exciting news from California! 🌞 The US is now home to the world's largest solar and battery energy storage project, the Edwards Sanborn Solar and Energy Storage project. Covering 4,600 acres in Kern County, this massive complex can generate 875 megawatts of solar power and store nearly 3.3 gigawatt-hours of energy in batteries. It's a game-changer for renewable energy, supplying enough electricity for 238,000 homes and reducing carbon emissions by 320,000 tons annually. Built with 1.9 million solar panels and batteries from top manufacturers, this project marks a significant milestone in sustainable energy development. Completed through a historic public-private partnership with over 1,000 workers, it sets a new standard for clean energy infrastructure. Murray Auchincloss Appointed bp Chief Executive Officer bp announced that the bp board has appointed Murray Auchincloss as bp chief executive officer with immediate effect. Murray, who has been interim CEO since September 2023, will continue as a member of the bp board.  His appointment has been made following a robust and competitive search process carried out by the board over the past four months with support from international search advisers. We're partnering with the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) to modernize the university's energy system – providing decades of sustainable energy. Today, we reached financial close on the NextGen Energy Program – kicking off the start of a 33-year partnership with UMD. Kiewit, along with partners Plenary Americas and Honeywell, will play a critical role in delivering a sustainable energy system and reducing UMD’s dependency on fossil fuels. The NextGen Energy Program will provide for a more resilient and efficient energy system on campus that will improve energy services and have a significant environmental impact – capable of cutting carbon emissions by 23% and decreasing water consumption by 50%. The NextGen Energy Program is part of UMD's commitment to become fossil-free by 2035. Kiewit is the co-developer, lead engineer and contractor. Construction will begin in July. ICYMI: Baltimore Development Corporation is proudly supporting Cenergy Holdings and Hellenic Cables in establishing a $38 million cable manufacturing facility in Baltimore, expected to create around 320 new jobs! The cables will be used to transfer electricity from off shore wind farms. Gov. Wes Moore highlighted, “This significant investment by Cenergy Holdings and Hellenic Cables demonstrates our state’s ability to attract innovative companies committed to a sustainable future.” I echoed this enthusiasm:"Hellenic Cable’s decision to select Wagner’s Point as the location of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is a testament to our thriving business environment and our commitment to encouraging innovative companies to continue to choose Baltimore City,” said Baltimore Development Corporation President and CEO Colin Tarbert. “BDC is proud to play a pivotal role, serving as a one-stop shop for Hellenic during the site selection process, and will continue to provide informed guidance as the project moves forward."
