During the 2024 World Economic Forum in #Davos, in collaboration with the SDG Tent and InTent, InvestConservation® showcased our innovative approach to tropical biodiversity protection using advanced technology and demonstrated genuine nature-positive outcomes. 🌿🌐 Our Chief Commercial Officer, Anja Rundquist, engaged an audience of 150 people at the annual SDG Tent Nature-Positive dinner. She shared the evocative calls of the Jocotoco Antpitta, a #threatened Ecuadorian bird with only 600 left in the population with range limited to the Tapichalaca reserve. The sounds of Bornean Orang-utans originate from Indonesia, where half the forests have been lost to palm oil plantations. “These are the sounds we want to protect”. 🦜Emphasizing the urgency, we don’t have time to only sit and calculate the materiality impact; we need to invest now. By making conservation investable, we can #protect these species from extinction”. 🌍 In addition to the scientific ground-level efforts by local conservation partners, InvestConservation leverages independent data and technology for transparency and traceability in the projects. The use of #AI and soundscapes provide a scalable tool for biodiversity measures. Camera traps capture elusive species like the Giant Anteater in the western Andes forest, while satellite imagery enables independent and cost-effective assessments of carbon sequestration and deforestation rates.📡🌳 Watch the recording to experience these impactful sounds and discover more about our high-quality tropical forest conservation projects. Learn how your firm can engage in nature-positive investments to protect precious biodiversity. 🎥Link Video: https://lnkd.in/d8zJTkTf #NaturePositive 🌱 #Biodiversity 🦋 #Investment 💰 #NatureProtection 🌳 #EndangeredSpecies 🦎

“𝐁𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧” - 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐘! Pacific island ecosystems are one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, with high levels of endemism. But did you know that Invasive Species are the primary cause of extinction on our islands? Learn how Pacific communities are protecting globally significant biodiversity areas from threats of invasive species through the GEF 6 Regional Invasive Project (RIP). Strengthening national and regional capacities to reduce the impact of Invasive Alien Species on globally significant biodiversity in the Pacific - GEF 6 RIP commenced in 2019. Featured highlights in the video includes: 🌱 Developing the first National Invasive Species Strategy and Action Plan (NISSAP) to ensure invasive species management is coordinated and implementing across the different sectors involved in Tuvalu. 🌱 Successful rat eradication in Erooj, Republic of Marshall Islands 🌱 Restoring Mt Talau, a priority ecological area in Vavaú Tonga, and protecting key endemic species, including Tongan Whistler or Hengahenga 🌱 Management of feral pigs and key priority weed species in Niue 🌱 Establishment of the Pacific Regional Invasive Species Management Support Service (PRISMSS), a coordinating mechanism designed to facilitate the scaling up of operational management of invasive species in the Pacific. The theme of International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) 2024 is “Be part of the Plan.” It’s a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity. Let’s all contribute to preserving our planet’s rich biodiversity! My first practical case on “biodiversity offsets”. l Have learnt quiet a lot from this case and looking forward to being more strategic on Biodiversity offsets in the future as a country. Thanks to The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd for the capacity built.
The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd are working with Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited to develop their Biodiversity Action Plan. We just completed a very productive week working with key stakeholders on the feasibility of terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity offsets in Southern Malawi, with a great team. It’s exciting to see the plans coming together. Exciting news! In partnership with other organisations, scientists and experts from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have developed a new tool that will give governments, businesses, civil society, and financial institutions the ability to measure whether their actions can help halt biodiversity loss and reduce global species extinction risk in oceans and seas. "The Species Threat Abatement and Restoration (STAR) tool uses existing data on extinction risks and threats faced by species, taken from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species to quantify how much targeted threat-abatement actions in specific places can minimise further risks to biodiversity and species. The tool’s expansion to marine areas allows governments, businesses, and financial institutions to better understand whether their actions are helping meet specific goals laid out international agreements like the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework." #naturepositive #biodiversity #esg #sustainability

The STAR metric measures contributions that actions in specific locations can make towards reducing species global extinction risk. 🌊 Its coverage has now been extended to the marine realm 🌊 Developed by experts from IUCN, The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd and other organisations, #MarineSTAR combines IUCN Red List data for 1,646 marine species into a global metric. Why it matters? 🌍 Our oceans face immense pressure from human activities, but decision makers often struggle with a lack of data. #MarineSTAR can guide targeted actions for biodiversity protection, at global scale, across the oceans and seas. 🐠 Read the paper here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ghUxei9f #MarineSTAR #OceanConservation
