One all nighter = small part of getting 2 Million Dollars Twelve years ago, my colleague at Bureau Gravity Brandon Lapierre and I were asked to tell a story that would resonate deeply with our hearts. We created a video showcasing the incredible journey of Pau Khai, an immigrant who fled Burma for human rights violations, and whose life was transformed through The Neighbor Project's Network Savings Program. The program helped him buy a house and eventually lead to him starting his own grocery store in Aurora. The American Dream! Little did we know that Kai’s story would change so many lives. When we were editing it I remember walking into the office one morning and seeing Brandon passed out on the sofa. He said he’d been up all night editing because he was so captivated by Khai's story and just couldn’t stop. It wasn't just any story; it was a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of community support. It was beautiful. Rick Guzman the Neighbor Project Executive Director’s initial reaction to the video speaks volumes: "I didn't know a video that good could be possible." I vividly recall the moment when we shared it with The Neighbor Project's team (Hayley Meksi and Lissa Chleboun). Tears welled up in their eyes, knowing that this story beautifully encapsulated their mission, their struggles, and their client’s triumphs. Fast forward to 2016, when The Neighbor Project was honored as one of the Top 100 Most Innovative Social Enterprises/Non-Profits in the world by Classy. Rick attributed a significant part of this recognition to Khai's story. Rick said, “It was included in our submission and even featured during the award presentation in DC.” Today, I am thrilled to congratulate The Neighbor Project as they been awarded a $2 million grant through the MacKenzie Scott Foundation. Rick thinks Khai's story, even a decade later, played a small part in sharing their story. This has been a simple, yet powerful reminder for me: that a good story has the potential to change lives. It can inspire action, ignite empathy, and drive meaningful impact. As we celebrate this milestone, let's continue to harness the power of storytelling to create a brighter, more compassionate world. #Storytelling #Impact #Community #Transformation #TheNeighborProject #MacKenzieScottFoundation #SocialGood #Innovation

Fortunately we see today highly intelligent #business people and #entrepreneurs acknowledging the value of #parenthood. It’s not only a “tired mummy” issue anymore. Raising children is crucial for society, as we are nurturing and educating the generation of the future. What we do during those seemingly “unproductive times” will determine the citizens and #leadership of tomorrow. Raising children is simply the most important #enterprise we can dedicate ourselves to. Thanks for sharing this, Daniel Priestley.

"How, in this moment, can there be racial-justice funders who do not adhere to trust-based principles? How are we still witnessing funders who voice their commitment to social justice while missing the chance to truly serve their partners?" - Nat Chioke Williams & Liz Bonner | HILL-SNOWDON FOUNDATION. In this article, the Hill-Snowdon Foundation reflects on four critical lessons they learned while reorienting to trust and strengthening their racial justice approaches: 💡 Consider the changes your board needs. 💡 Deepen internal racial justice work. 💡 Invest in building trust internally. 💡 Redistribute power. "There’s trust needed between board and staff, between staff and grantees, and also among our colleagues in the field. Those ecosystems of trust form a strong network that allow us to move nimbly and make impact happen when it’s needed." -Philip Li, ROBERT STERLING CLARK FOUNDATION, INC. It was an incredible day 1 of the inaugural International Family Office Forum! It was heartwarming to see months of planning finally coming together and FBN-The Family Business Network members interacting with each other like a big family reunion. The theme of the event was Family Office Impact, where we delved into the expansive role of family businesses and offices in societal contributions and purpose-driven involvements in community projects. Here are some of the key takeaways of day 1: 1. Defining the purpose is critical for a family to understand their values and plays a crucial role in determining the strategies of their Family Office. 2. Succession is a long-term process that takes place through generations. A smooth transition involves engaging all family members along on the journey. 3. Ownership matters as business families can drive systemic change through impact investing and philanthropy. At FBN, we are an organization of families by families. Grateful to have Mr Alvin Tan as the guest of honor who shared his own personal family journey with us. Freedom is not free. Democracy takes intention and diligent work to maintain and to strengthen. On this #IndependenceDay, we celebrate our democracy and our hard-won freedoms while we recognize our model of governing is something we must all fight to uphold. Now, more than ever, democracy needs bold funders. We can’t think of a better time to highlight our report Democracy-Focused Philanthropy: Choosing Operating Models for Deeper Impact than on Independence Day. This report serves a guide for funders looking to strengthen the bonds of our democracy while centering racial justice. From all of us at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, we wish you a happy and safe Independence Day! https://lnkd.in/ehur6t2z

What’s the best way to acknowledge and celebrate the key role of elder changemakers? As leaders, mentors, advisors, and role models, laying the foundations for the next generation of community leaders. As archivers, narrators and cultural thinkers with unique and invaluable skills and knowledge. How do we celebrate them, whilst also recognising and honouring their need for support to rest, after decades of, often unrecognised, hard work, activism, and community building? In May 2024 Thirty Percy will begin a sprint process to design and then run a first round of our new “Inheritance” fund (final name still to be determined) focussing on funding elder changemakers at this key stage of their work and, perhaps, lifecycle (this isn’t necessarily defined by age but the duration of their life’s work). To support this process, we’re looking for insights and inspiration. Do you know of any current funds or grants aimed at elder changemakers? Or perhaps you work for a charity or foundation that has discussed or planned something similar? We’d love to hear about it, please contact us at hello@thirtypercy.org with ‘Inheritance Fund’ in the subject line. To read more: https://lnkd.in/dK7dhbyf
