Understanding the difference between an "accountant" and a "chartered accountant" is crucial for business owners. While anyone can refer to themselves as an accountant, the title of "chartered accountant" is only granted to those who meet specific criteria and adhere to the rigorous regulations set by ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales). This regulatory body ensures that chartered accountants maintain high standards of client care and ethics. It involves completing rigorous exams, gaining valuable work experience, and meeting the stringent requirements set by ICAEW. The chartered status of a firm signifies that the majority of its owners are fully qualified professionals. Choosing a chartered accountant means partnering with a professional who has not only met the educational and experiential requirements but has also demonstrated a commitment to excellence. They offer comprehensive insights, strategic advice, and can guide businesses through complex financial processes. If you're seeking a trusted partner who can provide expert financial guidance and adhere to the highest standards, consider working with a chartered accountant. For more information on how a chartered accountant can benefit your business, we are here to assist you. #CharteredAccountant #BusinessFinance #Accounting #StrategicAdvice #FinancialConsultation #BusinessGrowth #ProfessionalAccreditation #WaterandAtkinson #Morecambe #Lancashire

Alright fellow CPAs, I have a question for you. I have a goal this year to add an additional credential and am debating whether I should go for a CMA through ICMA or take the AICPA/CIMA route to obtain a CGMA. Although both are globally recognized, the CMA is obviously more widely known as it existed for 40+ years before the CGMA. The CGMA still has the stigma of a "pay to obtain" credential from its inception in 2012 until the exam was implemented in 2015, however, as a licensed CPA in the US it does allow for exemptions based on experience which may provide an accelerated timeline to complete and obtain the credential. Cost is not a factor for either credential as they both ultimately end up costing roughly the same up to and through the examination. There are 1,000s of resources debating the two credentials, but I would rather defer to my network to engage in meaningful discussion/debate on the two items. Thank you, in advance, for any comments and discussion. PS: CITP is not out of the question either, but I will leave that for a later debate as I am much more interested in a management accountant credential at present.
