A recent Washington Post article sheds light on the severe shortage of affordable housing. As an organization committed to changing lives through affordable housing, we recognize the urgency of finding innovative solutions to ensure that America's working families have access to safe homes. The Biden Administration's $5.5 billion initiative aims to boost affordable housing and support community development, but it's clear that more must be done at every level of government and society. This challenge requires us to rethink our strategies, streamline regulations and promote new types of housing that cater to low- and moderate-income families. Personal stories from those facing housing insecurity highlight the human side of this crisis, reminding us that behind every statistic is a family striving for stability and opportunity. At Highridge Costa we are committed to rolling up our sleeves and working with all stakeholders to develop solutions that address these needs and advocate for policies that support affordable housing initiatives. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure that everyone has a place to call home. #AffordableHousing #HousingCrisis #CommunityDevelopment #PolicyReform #InnovativeSolutions #HousingForAll #HighridgeCosta https://lnkd.in/e4vQEgrK

Too often there's an assumption that people experiencing homelessness need to jump through hoops before they're ready for housing. But Chuck Flack argues that this approach is all wrong. "Services tend to work much more effectively when someone is stably housed," he explained. In other words, housing isn't a reward for good behavior – it's a basic necessity that everyone deserves. Housing Action Illinois Join Us Today for a National Day of Action Demanding Increased Funding for Federal Housing Programs! Today, Housing Action Illinois is joining the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding for a National Day of Action to urge people to contact their members of Congress and demand increased funding for affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs in this year’s federal budget, which is long overdue to be finalized. We are urging Congress to finalize a FY24 budget that includes: Full funding to renew all existing contracts for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. Increased funding for public housing operations and repairs. At minimum, the Senate’s proposed $3.9 billion for Homeless Assistance Grants!!!!!!!!! The $20 million in funding for the Eviction Prevention Grant Program provided in the Senate bill. The House’s proposed $1.1 billion for Native Housing. Example of the Impact of Inadequate Funding on Illinois If Congress provides less than the estimated $28.7 billion needed for Housing Choice Voucher renewals, the number of households receiving assistance will be reduced during the next year. Regaining vouchers lost can often take years. In the current House budget, it's estimated that Illinois would lose 4,800 vouchers. In the current Senate version of the budget, the estimated loss of vouchers is 3,400. Based on the demographics of who receives vouchers, we know that families with children, seniors and people with disabilities would be disproportionately be harmed. People of all racial and ethnic backgrounds would be negatively impacted, but Black-led households would be harmed the most. Based on last year's federal budget, there was enough funding to support almost 115,000 voucher households throughout the state. How to Take Action: https://lnkd.in/gUSm4BAJ Contact your federal legislator today, by emailing or calling to demand funding for housing and homelessness programs at the highest level possible in FY 24. Gaining deeper understanding about community perceptions on homelessness is the focus of a Selkirk Innovates online survey that is now open to the public. Selkirk College is inviting community members in Trail, Castlegar and Nelson to share their views on current conditions, services that support the unhoused, the well-being of the unhoused population, sources of information about the issue, and overall community engagement. The survey is part of Selkirk Innovates’ three-year applied research project, "Bridging Rural Homelessness and Well-being: A Sustainable and Collaborative Regional Response," aimed at improving the well-being of those experiencing homelessness in the West Kootenay. Legislative Update! This year’s #PABudget included a significant increase in the transfer caps from Realty Transfer Tax revenue to the PA Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE). According to the updated law, the transfer cap will increase by $10 million over the next four years from $60 million to $100 million. This crucial funding will support sustainable and comprehensive projects to: 🏠 Preserve and create affordable housing 🏠 Reduce homelessness 🏠 Support community revitalization 🏠 Promote affordable homeownership 🏠 Address various unmet housing and community development needs across the Commonwealth This is a major step forward for affordable senior housing and community development in Pennsylvania. We appreciate the legislators who have supported this effort. #AffordableHousing

West Kent and Sevenoaks District Council signed their three-year annual partnership agreement last week, which outlines how the two organisations will continue to work together to provide homes and neighbourhoods people are proud to live in. Cabinet members from Sevenoaks District Council and Board members from West Kent came together to celebrate how working together at a more strategic level had delivered for the district. Looking forward, the new three-year agreement will focus on: ➡️Working together to prevent homelessness, through providing support to sustain existing tenancies and by working to rehouse people quickly. ➡️Working in partnership to better match available homes to current residents when their needs change so they can move to a more suitable home. ➡️Work together in delivering a place-based approach as West Kent invests in their current homes to regenerate neighbourhoods and develop opportunities in partnership to support local communities.
