Housing instability, homelessness, and despair are rampant, yet capital to address it is scarce. In NATSEC, I saw resources flow swiftly when needs are prioritized. Housing stability must be treated with the same urgency. It isn't prioritized now. We must change that. #HousingStabilityIsNationalSecurity #Homelessness #HousingStability #NationalSecurity #AffordableHousing #Community

For us at Maytree, #NationalHousingDay is a reminder to focus on those in greatest need. In Toronto, shelters are overwhelmed, turning hundreds away nightly due to a lack of beds. High rents and economic insecurity leave one in five Toronto households at risk of homelessness. The housing crisis is urgent, deeply personal, and impossible to ignore. As we look ahead to 2025, we are focused on progress. Progress that can be made on more shelter space, more deeply affordable housing, more dignity for those without homes. Progress toward better outcomes and brighter stories. Realizing the right to housing requires all of us—governments, civil society, and individuals with lived experience—working together to make progress in making adequate housing a reality for everyone. We are proud to stand with organizations leading this vital work: ACORN Canada , Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, National Right to Housing Network, Right to Housing Toronto, Community Justice Collective , Covenant House Toronto, FCJ Refugee Centre, Federation of Metro Tenants' Associations (FMTA), John Howard Society of Ontario, Women’s National Housing Homelessness Network, The Shift, Toronto Public Library Foundation, West End Phoenix.

Can affordable housing transform declining neighborhoods? One organization believes it can—and it’s already doing so. Based in San Angelo, Texas, Galilee is a not-for-profit organization providing affordable housing options for residents on low to moderate incomes. Stephanie Hamby, MPA, Executive Director of Galilee CDC, and Carlos Cruz, Rehabilitation Manager, discuss the organization's impact on affordable housing and homelessness, focusing on community engagement and partnerships. "With the category of 18-to-30-year-olds leaving school or the foster care system, these individuals are susceptible to homelessness or ‘couch surfing’, but by thinking upstream, we can provide good quality, affordable apartments to combat these potential issues." A recent Washington Post article sheds light on the severe shortage of affordable housing. As an organization committed to changing lives through affordable housing, we recognize the urgency of finding innovative solutions to ensure that America's working families have access to safe homes. The Biden Administration's $5.5 billion initiative aims to boost affordable housing and support community development, but it's clear that more must be done at every level of government and society. This challenge requires us to rethink our strategies, streamline regulations and promote new types of housing that cater to low- and moderate-income families. Personal stories from those facing housing insecurity highlight the human side of this crisis, reminding us that behind every statistic is a family striving for stability and opportunity. At Highridge Costa we are committed to rolling up our sleeves and working with all stakeholders to develop solutions that address these needs and advocate for policies that support affordable housing initiatives. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure that everyone has a place to call home. #AffordableHousing #HousingCrisis #CommunityDevelopment #PolicyReform #InnovativeSolutions #HousingForAll #HighridgeCosta https://lnkd.in/e4vQEgrK

Check out this ABC report where I talk about how we can reach Functional Zero Street Homelessness LA County! Thanks Century Housing for posting and for your contributions to Functional Zero.
The City of Redondo Beach, in partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), has achieved functional zero street homelessness—a testament to their commitment to strengthening the South Bay community through collaboration and care. We’re honored to celebrate this milestone and to have contributed through the creation of The Moonstone, our Homekey conversion by Century Affordable Development, Inc. The Moonstone provides 20 permanent supportive homes in Redondo Beach for residents who have experienced chronic homelessness. Many of these individuals transitioned through the housing continuum established by the City of Redondo Beach and SBCCOG. 🎥 Watch this ABC7 Los Angeles report: https://lnkd.in/g2nxtsBv 📖 Read about The Moonstone: https://bit.ly/3UkG8tp #affordablehousing #supportivehousing #Homekey #SouthBay

At the recent Brisbane Supportive Housing Round Table hosted by Micah Projects and Brisbane Zero, Kim Keaton and Liz Drapa, experts from US based The Corporation for Supportive Housing, CSH, the Source for Housing Solutions ‘busted these myths’ and talked about the potential for permanent supportive housing—housing that combines services with intensive tenancy management—to end homelessness in Queensland. QCOSS appreciated the opportunity to gain their invaluable insights into the power of permanent supportive housing and delve deeper into the truths behind this approach. Progress that has been made in reducing veteran homelessness shows that with significant investment and political will, we can reduce homelessness, even among those with a history of mental illness or substance use disorders. Here in Alameda County, for example, veteran homelessness has decreased by 5% from 550 in 2022 to 524 in 2024. Read our Housing Plan to explain how we plan to tackle this problem at: www.achcd.org/reports. And leave your comments on the plan here: https://lnkd.in/gC8f-z6G. While overall homelessness has increased nationwide since 2009, veteran homelessness has fallen by half. Since 2008, Congress has spent billions of dollars providing rental assistance, in the form of housing vouchers, to homeless veterans. Vouchers come with no conditions; services such as drug treatment or mental health care are offered but not required. https://lnkd.in/g_97WF_b

Legislative Update! This year’s #PABudget included a significant increase in the transfer caps from Realty Transfer Tax revenue to the PA Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE). According to the updated law, the transfer cap will increase by $10 million over the next four years from $60 million to $100 million. This crucial funding will support sustainable and comprehensive projects to: 🏠 Preserve and create affordable housing 🏠 Reduce homelessness 🏠 Support community revitalization 🏠 Promote affordable homeownership 🏠 Address various unmet housing and community development needs across the Commonwealth This is a major step forward for affordable senior housing and community development in Pennsylvania. We appreciate the legislators who have supported this effort. #AffordableHousing
