There’s three weeks to go until the #IAMLive IP and Emerging Technology Europe conference in London on 6 March. The agenda is looking packed and there is still time to register to make sure you don’t miss HLK expert Louise Perkin (nee Handley) speaking on the ‘Generative AI: a revolution for the IP profession?’ panel, as well as the other sessions on the busy agenda. The panel, which also includes Scott E. Schneider, Nellie Simon and Chris Hardee, will explore how experts are integrating AI tools to boost the productivity of under-resourced IP departments – but why it could all go wrong if not handled with care. They’ll likely touch on these topics: Embedding tools and solutions into your IP department Generative AI as a trade secret risk How not to be replaced by AI Find out more about the conference here: https://lnkd.in/eUGeQRZ8 #IAMLiveIPEmergingTechnologyEurope #IPEmergingTechnology2024 #ImagineBetterAI #GenerativeAI

One of the most promising application of LLMs with real world enterprise benefits is "agentic" workflows, where advanced LLM capabilities such as reflection, tool use, planning and multi-agent collaboration are exploited. The concept of an agent here is that it not only responds to questions and requests, but the agent does something with the response. Andrew Ng and other scientists have observed by running multiple LLMs in a network (i.e. one LLM's output is another's input), you can significantly boost performance and quality of outputs across a variety of LLM powered use cases such as code generation, function calling and much more. The future is agents based.

European lawmakers have passed the world's first comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence, classifying technological risks from "unacceptable" to "low." I'm pleased to have added my small contribution to this achievement, working as part of the European AI Alliance collaborating with the European Commission on this issue. This pioneering legislation, due to go into effect in May, aims to harmonize technological innovation with fundamental rights, positioning Europe as a world leader in the management of artificial intelligence!

🌟 I am so excited to share today that my most recent policy brief co-authored with the talented Maroussia Lévesque has been published by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI)!! It is titled "New Technologies Challenge Freedom of Thought: Cases and Directions for Research." 💡 There is a lot of discussion around the need for AI governance and the risks that we will face in the future. There are already challenges we face today that we have yet to acknowledge. The more we choose to embed technology into our society, the more important it is to go into it with our eyes wide open. In this brief we delve into the critical intersections of technology and our freedom of thought, addressing the impacts today and on the horizon. Here are the some highlights: 📢 Social Media: Unpacking the ways in which social media shapes our thoughts and perspectives, exploring the nuances of digital influence. 🚆 Generative AI : Navigating the near-term challenges posed by the use of Generative AI in our political and social systems. 🧠 AR/VR and Brain Computer Interfaces: Peering into the future, we examine the implications of AR, VR and Brain Computer Interfaces on our cognitive freedom. This work aims to spark conversations and pave the way for research and application in understanding and mitigating these impacts. Have a read and let me know what you think! 🙏 A special thanks to Dr. Susie A., Aaron Shull and the CIGI team for helping bring this to life! #FreedomOfThought #AIGovernance #EmergingTechnologies
In a connected world, the blend of social media, AI, workplace surveillance, and other technologies significantly impacts our ability to maintain control of our thoughts and opinions. When it comes to our freedom of thought, where do responsibilities lie? To kick off our new project, Legitimate Influence or Unlawful Manipulation?, Mai Mavinkurve P.Eng. and Maroussia Lévesque analyze the myriad ways in which new technologies are challenging traditional guardrails established to protect inner freedoms.
