The Olympics are over, and all the medals have been handed out, but which sport was the most read about sport during the Games? Using data from Ipsos iris, we can see that swimming generated the most page views across the 17-day event, followed by the triathlon and the gymnastics. Tennis and athletics rounded out the top five. Internet users aged 35-44 accounted for the largest share of page views across the Olympics, followed by 45-54 year olds. Younger audiences were comparatively less engaged, although 25-34 year old accounted for one in five page views about the rain-delayed triathlon - enough for a bronze medal. Interests from Ipsos iris allows you to see trending news and content broken down by site, subject and demographics. #Olympics #Ipsosiris #AudienceMeasurement #Insights #Sport

The 2024 Paris Olympics/Paralympics captured our imagination … and Australia's highlights were nothing short of inspiring: • Jess Fox cementing her legacy as the most successful paddler in kayaking/canoeing history, bringing home two Gold medals • Alexa Leary’s stunning performance to win the Women's 100m freestyle S9 in world record time • Caitlin Parker making history as the first Australian woman to win an Olympic boxing medal in the W75kg category • Lauren Parker achieving a remarkable feat as Australia's first dual-sport Paralympic medallist in 44 years, securing Gold in the Paratriathlon and Women's road race H14 and Silver in the H13 individual time trial ... and there are many, many more examples on the highlights reel. … and ‘Yes’ - the medals are cause for celebration, but the real magic lies in how sport inspires; creates community, a sense of belonging, resilience, self-confidence; and forges friendships and cherished memories. So, it’s no surprise that every Olympic/Paralympic Games sparks a surge of interest in sports participation. But the real challenge for Australia’s 400+ participation sports - especially those outside the mainstream like paddling, rock climbing, lacrosse (set to debut in the 2028 LA Games) - is how to maintain and capitalize on this momentum. Well, it starts with getting noticed … and how do you do that … talk to a good marketer! #sportsmarketing #branding #brandbuilding

According to a YouGov poll, A quarter of Britons think they could qualify for the 2028 Olympics! Younger Brits are more bullish about competing on the world stage, with 39% of 18-24-year-olds thinking they could complete at LA28 if they started training today. The report breaks this down by sport, and perhaps even more surprising is that 5% of 50-64-year-olds think they could qualify for the 100m sprint! YouGov, where do you find these people? Unsurprisingly men are more confident in their Olympic prospects than women, however not in all sports. Women are more optimistic than men in gymnastics, dressage, and rowing and more than twice as many women than men think they could qualify for the 100m Breaststroke. https://lnkd.in/epumEMeZ

Deep dive part 2: Paris 2024 – which Olympic sport drew the most viewers? In the afterglow of Comcast’s huge Paris Games win – with NBC platforms seeing record revenue ($1.2B), #viewership (+30M daily total avg), and US household #reach (almost 60M), I'm curious to know which specific men’s or women’s sport generated the biggest audiences. Without NBC disclosing specific #audience #data, it’s hard to tell. During the 3-4 most watched days, Women’s Gymnastics, Swimming, Basketball & Athletics (Track/ Field) all factored into the mix; and the biggest audience day, Sunday 7/28, featured Swimming & Women’s Gymnastics. So then, can we instead look at which men's or women's Olympic sport NBCUniversal invested in covering the most? A report by Five Ring TV, which breaks down NBC’s primetime coverage in 1st 10 days, points to the answer. NBC devoted more Olympic primetime programming hours to women's gymnastics - 6 hours, 40 minutes, 26 seconds (6:40:26) - than any other men’s or women’s sport; landing in 2nd and 3rd is Men’s & Women’s Athletics (at 5:59:18 and 5:01:41) respectively. Clearly, NBC’s winning formula for record breaking #revenue included prioritizing Women’s Gymnastics coverage, and capitalizing on fan interest & the sport’s massive appeal - particularly that of women athletes - to (brand attractive) audiences. Why then (unlike those competing in almost all other sports) do these same women athletes - performing at top of their game, with worldwide #appeal & spectacular athleticism - have no meaningful opportunities generate earnings ON the field of play? Why is the current means to #monetize gymnastics only via brand, NIL, and other endorsement deals that are paid outside of actually competing? It’s time to change that. #GIGAprogym

The Olympic Games are an international multi-sport event held every four years, where thousands of athletes from around the world gather to compete in various sports. The Olympics promote unity, friendship, and fair play, while celebrating human achievement and excellence. The modern Olympic Games were founded in 1896 by Pierre de Coubertin, but their origins date back to ancient Greece, where the first recorded Olympic Games took place in 776 BC. The Games were held every four years for over 1,000 years until they were banned by the Roman Emperor Theodosius in 393 AD. The Olympic Games feature summer and winter sports, with the summer Games typically attracting more participants and spectators. Sports include track and field, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, soccer, and many others. The Winter Olympics feature sports like alpine skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, and snowboarding. The Olympics have grown to become a global event, with over 200 countries participating. The Games promote international understanding, athletic achievement, and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinking #designthinker
