Join us on 17 September as we look at how our choices, combined with broader systemic issues, have made food more carbon intensive, and what actions we can adopt to make more #sustainable decisions. The session, in support of the NUS Sustainability CONNECT festival, will feature interactive segments to broaden your perspectives on the carbon impact of common food items. There will also be opportunities for meaningful discussion around individual climate action relating to food consumption, and how consuming more carbon-friendly food contributes to a healthier lifestyle. We are sharing two excellent articles on #SustainableFoodSystems that are worth reading, discussing, and sharing further: 1️⃣ Why What We Eat Matters for Climate Change - Available at: https://lnkd.in/dbpwq8Qr - Published by MyNutriWeb, written by Jessica Sansom, RNutr, Sustainability Director at Huel. This provides a succinct overview of food sustainability problems and solutions. 2️⃣ How Practitioners Can Influence Planetary Health - Available at: https://lnkd.in/g59FyZCQ - Published by Orgain, written by Mary Purdy, MS, RDN Eco-Dietitian/Nutrition and Sustainability Expert. This 12-page article is inclusive of a useful list of resources and references with 9 suggestions for putting recommendations into practice. In addition to the topics they raise, two other issues are key for Sustainable Food Systems: 🥤 🛒 PLASTICS are a huge part of the problem in all parts of the food system from production to processing to consumption. We can avoid plastic and help our clients and networks to do the same. 🌳 🦗 There are thousands of INDIGENOUS SPECIES around the world - diverse flora, fungi, and fauna – which can help to heal our planet & people. Last week we mentioned the growing consumer trend of purposeful sustainability, highlighting the concept of activist eating. 🌿 Activist eating and climate optimism is reshaping consumer behavior. Increasing awareness around soil health and biodiversity is driving the demand for verified regenerative foods. Consumers are seeking clear and trustworthy sustainability claims, alongside improvements in product carbon footprints. There is also a heightened demand for deforestation-free ingredients and innovations in waste reduction and circular economy practices. As climate change and dwindling resources continue to influence the food and beverage industry, contributing to a more sustainable food system is now more crucial than ever. 🌍 #Sustainability #RegenerativeFoods #CircularEconomy #SoilHealth #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #FBBInnovation

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address global challenges including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Paragon Pure's innovative offerings like OléBK™ and OléPBM™, derived from upcycled rice bran, alongside CaptaClean™ and SproutedByNature™, directly support the following SDGs: Goal 2: Zero Hunger - by providing nutritious, sustainable food ingredients. Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being - by offering healthier food options that enhance well-being. Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - by focusing on natural, upcycled and efficiently produced ingredients. Key Takeaway: Conscious choices in the food industry can lead to substantial global benefits. Through these efforts, we're not just part of the global mission for a sustainable future but also active participants in creating a healthier world. So ask yourself, how can you contribute also? #PlantBased #sustainability #realfood #savingtheplanet #futureoffoods

🌍 The World Bank’s recent report, "Recipe for a Livable Planet: Achieving Net Zero Emissions in the Agrifood System," spotlights a crucial shift toward plant-based foods for a sustainable future. At the European Plant-Based Foods Association (ENSA), we wholeheartedly support this call to action. 🌱 Agrifood is a big contributor to climate change generating almost a third of GHG emissions, averaging around 16 gigatons annually! By embracing plant-based diets, developed countries can significantly cut emissions, with the potential to slash over 300 MtCO2 eq annually! 🌍 Not only does this protect our planet, but it also optimizes land and water use for a more sustainable agri-food system. Let's champion sustainable diets for a healthier, more livable planet! 🌿 #NetZero #SustainableFuture #PlantBased

In July, the UNFSS+2 was a pivotal moment in our shared journey toward #sustainable #foodsystems. On the sidelines, the SDG2 Hub co-hosted side event ‘Achieving sustainable food systems in a time of multiple crises: a new global roadmap ‘ with the Shamba Centre for Food and Climate to discuss ways to strengthen #resilience against multiple crises. This side event also saw the launch of #Hesat2030, a visionary global roadmap dedicated to developing and implementing scientific, data driven solutions that can effectively transform food systems to deliver healthy #diets for all and end global #hunger! “Hesat2030 builds on alliances, technology and innovations to advance solutions. We must not shy away from complexity and we cannot be afraid to do things differently. This is our goal with Hesat2030” - Jaron Porciello. 🌱 Proud Moment! 🌱 I had the privilege of presenting my poster on Food Security: The Foundation for a Sustainable Future at MIT School of Food Technology. 📝 The presentation highlighted: The importance of reducing food waste and addressing hunger. How a growing population and climate change pose challenges to feeding the world sustainably. Actions we can take to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals 🌍, especially Zero Hunger and Responsible Consumption & Production. In a world where 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted each year, it’s crucial for all of us to rethink how we produce, distribute, and consume food. Let's work together to ensure food security for everyone! #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #FoodTech #ZeroHunger #ClimateAction #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment
