((NOT) PUTTING THIS STORY ON ICE RICHARD GUBBE’S BOOK ON VEGAS HOCKEY! This week, Richard Gubbe, author (along with Robert Lawson) of “Vegas Hockey, Vegas Strong,” joins me on “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” https://lnkd.in/gXeNZhih & all your favorite platforms, including #YouTube (https://lnkd.in/gWt6mTCy). In this episode of “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Richard talks about the early days (and teams) of hockey in Las Vegas; what happened to the proposed hockey team that was going to be brought in by producer Jerry Bruckheimer in 2008; why promotion can help a team even if it’s poorly managed; how there were 30 failed professional teams in Las Vegas until the Vegas Golden Knights came along; how Bill Foley had the combination of skills and resources to establish a team in Las Vegas; why hockey is a sport that crosses genders; the most surprising thing he found out about hockey while writing the book; why the book is not just historical, but fun; how the VGK is a “fellowship”; and why motivation is the key to hockey success. #hockey #VGK #NHL #Vegas #VegasBorn QUICK CLIP (Richard on one of many reasons VGK is successful):

Welcome, Utah Hockey Club, to the National Hockey League (NHL) Yes, you heard me correctly—the NHL is in Salt Lake City Corporation! Now, hockey, of course, is the greatest sport to ever happen on ice, but let’s be honest, there’s a bit of a learning curve here. What’s icing? Why was that offsides? And perhaps the most crucial question of all: Why, in the name of all that is decent, are the Boston Bruins the absolute worst? But don’t worry, Salt Lake-ians—Salt Lakers? Salt Lick-ees? Whatever!—AllSeater.com is here to help you tackle one of the truly hard parts of this whole hockey experience: managing those 41 home games in a season! Because, let’s face it, figuring out who’s getting your tickets can be tougher than explaining the difference between a power play and just regular ol’ violence. Luckily, our platform makes it dead simple. AllSeater seamlessly allocates, notifies, and organizes your season tickets so not a single seat goes to waste. And for that inevitable moment when you have tickets to that dreaded 10/19 Boston Bruins game? Fear not! AllSeater ensures that your terrible Bruins-loving client gets the seats, sparing you the agony of sending your intern who’s also, somehow, an equally horrible Bruins fan. Seriously, what’s in the water up there? Sign up today at AllSeater and use promo code ALLSNHL25 for a free subscription. Because hockey is great, but the Bruins… less so. #seasontickets #nhl

Hello Hockey Fan’s. Take a listen to episode 89 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast. #1. What is the big concern with the Montreal Canadiens having 3 goalies in Montreal all season long. Not only is there no issue with it, it’s completely fair to all involved based on where the team is at in its process. #2. What’s with the extreme overwhelming amount obsessive compulsive behavior regarding Montreal needs to mortgage all of its draft capital, prospects and top roster players to acquire a top center? For what possible rational reason or for what positive purpose would Montreal acquire Casey Middelstadt for? #3. Unless a trade with Josh Anderson or Justin Barron as the center piece of the trade, with either Oliver Kapanen, Jacob Olofsson or Jan Mysak as the 2nd piece of the trade and Ty Smilanic as the 3rd and last piece of the trade can be completed, the compensation demands of Buffalo would be way too high, for a player that has not even remotely lived up to their skill set to date. #4. The Montreal Canadiens have centers Nick Suzuki, Jake Evans, Brendan Gignac, Lias Andersson, Owen Beck, Lucas Condotta, Jared Davidson, Sean Farrell, Phillippe Maillet and Xavier Simoneau all available within their organization. #5. What is wrong with all of these people that want to purposely ruin Arber Xhekaj’s career by being unprofessional, intentionally trying to start chaos, spread total B.S. creating completely unfounded doubts, and questioning of defenseman Arber Xhekaj? If anyone is looking for the definition of disgrace, look no further. Arber Xhekaj is that extremely rare physical talent that can actually play and not just enforce. That’s why so many teams want him on their rosters. If for some reason he’s traded, I hope it haunts Montreal forever. I hope Montreal never wins another Stanley Cup again, and I would never follow the franchise again. #6. For anyone who thought Jaraj Slafkovsky from the first game he played was going to hit the ice like Conner McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos or Alexandre Ovechkin, pull your head out of the sand. Slafkovsky wasn’t going to immediately step on the ice and replicate Jaromir Jager either, it takes time, and even more so on a rebuilding team. He was 18-years of age when drafted, he’s just 19 years of age now. Prior to being drafted he played in 7 international games and a tournament before coming to the NHL. Is there actually a single living, mentally functioning human being that thought he would hit the ice like the afore mentioned, they need their head examined. In case anyone has forgotten, not all 1st overall picks excel. How did Alexandre Daigle, Patrik Stefan, Rick DiPietro, Nail Yakupov and Alexis Lafreniere turn out. The jury is still out on Lafreniere It took Jack Hughes 4-years in the NHL before he lit it up, and his team had talent around him all the time. https://lnkd.in/gvH55YTr

On-Ice Injury Recovery Specialist: Injury Needs Analysis, Functional Assessment and On Ice Injury Recovery program planning for players returning from injury in North America and Europe.
Taken from the WHL injury report for February 20th, 2024. I have said previously that injury affects all levels of play, from Pro’s to minor hockey. WHL is Major Junior. Easy to see from the attachment how injury affects a lineup. Every year, regardless of league, rosters are selected, prepared or built to give the best opportunity to win. When injury happens roster continuity goes out the window along with chemistry and morale. Getting players back fully recovered both mentally and physically is essential for a successful season. Functional sport specific on ice recovery, filling the gap betwee rehab and RTP does just that. Hello Hockey Fan’s, If you love hockey, take a listen to Episode 93 of the Hockey Free For All Podcast Content Includes- #1. The NHL has clearly overstepped its authority by suspending Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella for 2 games and fining him 50,000 dollars. John Tortorella Calls it as he sees it. #2. The officials in all sports have been horrendously bad for decades and are not beyond questioning in any way. Any league and the executives that believes officials are beyond question, have got it really wrong and backwards. #3. How has officiating been able to remain so bad after video replay was not only made available, but was instituted within the game, that should have eliminated poor officiating, any and all missed calls within the game, shouldn’t it? #4. The league officials and its executives deserve every bit of criticism they have received. #5. I absolutely applaud 100%, the response of the Philadelphia Flyer’s CEO Dan Hilferty to Al Morganti of NBC Sports that he would pay the entire amount of what ever fine the NHL imposed on head Coach John Tortorella. #6. Those that are predicting that the Philadelphia Flyers will crash and burn before the 2023/2024 season wraps up, should know that they have just provided the most fantastic bulletin board fuel to the Flyers to not only continue there outstanding season, but go deep into the playoff, and if there anyone who feeds off of those kinds of remarks and statement, its John Tortorella, and I truly hope Tortorella make all of these predictors choke on their comments. In case you’re not on board with the stupidity of the league, try to explain this rationally. Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher was hit with a longer suspension than New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe, and I have no problem with Rempe, that made since to someone? #7. I am taking great enjoyment watching all the Kent Hughes questioners choke on their words. #8. Montreal had a great 2023/2024 trade season. #9. The 3-goaltender system worked great in Montreal. It allowed everyone time and growth, the team is in a rebuild and evaluation mode and Jake Allens influence will make an enormous positive impact on Cayden Primeau’s and Sam Montembeau’s careers. Cayden Primeau will ascend to the number one goalie position in Montreal. https://lnkd.in/gCG7jE3T

Wayne Gretzky's Trade to LA! Craig Simpson Breaks down one of the biggest trades in NHL History In this segment from Joe Tilley's Great Canadian Sports Show, NHL player Craig Simpson reflects on the significant moment when Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Edmonton Oilers. Simpson describes the surreal experience of being with Gretzky in Los Angeles when the trade occurred in August 1988. He emphasizes Gretzky's impact as a teammate and person and discusses the challenges of dealing with rumors and the abrupt change in the team dynamic. Simpson recounts the day of the trade, mentioning a phone call from Bruce McNall, the Kings' owner, confirming the deal. The conversation touches on the shock and life-changing nature of the trade for both the NHL and Gretzky. The discussion also addresses the subsequent season, where the Oilers faced the Kings in the Stanley Cup Final. Simpson admits that the team wasn't adequately prepared to face Gretzky and the Kings, resulting in a loss. He acknowledges that they didn't approach Gretzky the same way they would other great players and reflects on the missed opportunity to close the series when they were up three to one in the first round against the Kings. The clip concludes with Simpson expressing the uniqueness and impact of the Gretzky trade on the NHL and the changing landscape of hockey. #GreatCanadianSportsShow #CraigSimpson #WayneGretzky #EdmontonOilers #LosAngelesKings #NHLTrade #Gretzky #HockeyHistory #TeammateTales #LifeChanging #StanleyCup #MissedOpportunities #TheGreatGretzkyTrade #Hockey #McNallConfirmsTheDeal #FromOilersToKings #Changing #Edmonton #Facing #UnpreparedForGreatness #Kings #Throne #LearningFromTheTrade #Missing #Landscape
