🇨🇴 In #Colombia, the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó emblematic and internationally recognized community process in the Urabá region lost two community members Nallely Sepúlveda and child Edinson David to violent murders. PBI has accompanied this community since 1999. These tragic losses point to the lack of progress in terms of the real dismantling of the structures inherited from paramilitarism that continue to act in the territories, murdering defenders and generating multiple forms of violence. Despite repeated denunciations, state actions to prevent the double murder have been ineffective. Dismantling structures inherited from paramilitarism means advancing without further delay in the genuine investigation of the links between armed groups and political, economic and military elites. In several territories of the country, such as Magdalena Medio, Putumayo or Valle del Cauca, we hear concerns about the expansion of armed groups, among them the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces (AGC), which continue to threaten, murder, confine or silence ethnic and peasant communities, in addition to recruiting young people, harming girls and women, in the midst of struggles for territorial control. ◼ PBI's public comment at the outcome of Colombia's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by the Human Rights Council on its 55th session (1:38:20): https://lnkd.in/diutQA6z ◼ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/drt7H_xg
