📚 Are Pakistani children learning adequately? No. 👩🏽💻 Are Pakistani children being prepared for a competitive workforce? No. 🏫 Are Pakistani parents satisfied with their children’s schooling? YES. Why aren’t Pakistani parents aware of the learning crisis? Are teachers solely responsible for how much Pakistani children learn? 💡 Parents can play a pivotal part in correcting this compromised equation. Tabadlab’s latest publication centres the often neglected role of parents in the learning journey. "All thanks to classes on YouTube", said Yasir, a member of my para staff, when I congratulated him on his children speaking flawless English, and topping their respective grades in Mathematics. Yasir himself was pulled out of school in grade 5. He does not speak or read English. He knows basic arithmwtic, and can read basic Urdu. He has four children, all of which are doing very well in school, and he has made it his life's mission to get them educated and productive. "Youtube? What about learning in the classroom?" I asked. He then went on to explain that his children were really struggling with classroom learning, and were consistently scoring poorly in tests and exams. Then he was donated a tablet, which his children used to log into YouTube and take free lessons in both English reading/comprehension, and Mathematics, and in the two years since then, their learning and performance has skyrocketed. Learning poverty is a very real thing in Pakistan, with up to 43 million children not learning adequately, and Yasir's story is a microcosmic example of a much larger issue. This is an alarming statistic, considering #Pakistan has one of the world's largest youth populations, with 125 million below the age of 23. It has severe implications for productivity in the coming years when our GDP is stagnating, inflation is rising, and the brain drain has nearly tripled in the last four years. Paradoxically, #Pakistani parents are quite satisfied with learning in schools. Why does this discrepency exist? How can parents be satisfied with a system that does not foster learning, and does not produce productive members of society? Something doesn't quite add up. Tabadlab's Learning Deck addresses this discrepency, and leverages primary data to make the case for how behavioral insights can help us engage and inform parents better on how to solve this existential crisis. This incredible work, put togther by my colleagues Mosharraf Zaidi, Umar Nadeem, Maira Sheikh, and Moiz Naeem, and designed by Noor Ul Abrar, with support from Fahad Zafar and Shajee Ahmad, share data-driven strategies that can help redesign the learning equation. CEO & Founder @Sonotiv | Microsoft Official Partner | AI-based sales script improver & real time sales assistant tool
According to UNICEF's studies, nearly 17% of the global adult population, amounting to over 770 million people, cannot read or write, underscores the vast scale of literacy challenges across the globe. The number is even higher if you take in the people with limited literacy skills. This issue is also relevant for many developed countries, as, for instance, about 60 million US adults struggle with basic literacy. 📚There are many reasons for this, but one thing is certain: making learning more audially and visually accessible will help learning programs. So, what can be done in a working environment? - Focus on implementing more accessible learning platforms, such as Sonotiv to ensure inclusivity and better understanding. - Make the content more engaging & enjoyable, especially in sectors such as FMCG, HORECA, and retail. - Make exercises interactive by using real-world language scenarios for practical application. - Try to build more personalized learning paths to accommodate for potential literacy difficulties. - Continue supporting your team’s journey with ongoing assistance for additional education. Sonotiv believes in empowering every individual. Our AI-enhanced training programs make learning accessible and enjoyable for your employees. Shweta Bhutada (Head, Survey Unit - ASER Centre) and Neeraj Trivedi (Head, Organizational Effectiveness - Pratham Education Foundation) write in The Hindu about the need to use data to reform and provide solutions. ASER 2023 provides data on the abilities and aspirations of youth aged 14-18 years in rural India. The article dives into how this data can help transform the lives of youth in India, provided this data is used to build solutions and support systems for the youth. Founder of Drishti| Inclusive Education Thought Leader| Champion for Equity and Inclusion at Home, School and Workplace| Bridging Gaps in Diversity and Accessibility in Learning
Is Inclusive Education a Universal Reality Yet? The global journey toward inclusive education is a compelling narrative of aspirations versus realities. Since the UN-CRPD's adoption, the goal of 'Education for All' has become a global commitment, yet its implementation reveals diverse challenges. While some countries have made significant strides, the overall shift towards fully inclusive classrooms is progressing slower than expected. This disparity is marked by the persistence of segregated education systems and the partial integration of special education needs (SEN) students into mainstream classes. Countries like Norway, Finland, the USA, the UK, Australia, and the UAE are leading the way, innovating with methods such as Differentiated Instruction and Personalized Learning and providing supportive learning environments. These nations exemplify the potential of inclusive education when backed by robust strategies, resources, and a clear commitment. India, while having a solid blueprint for inclusive education, still faces challenges in fully executing these plans. It's a journey that began decades ago and now requires more commitment for effective implementation. To delve into these varied global approaches and understand the complex landscape of inclusive education, 'Ms. How & Me' offers detailed insights. The book is a rich resource for anyone interested in the nuances of how different countries are navigating this crucial aspect of education. Grab your copy of 'Ms. How & Me' today to explore these international perspectives and join the global dialogue on #inclusiveeducation. 2moAbsolutely applaud, appreciate, and support this work / approach! “As part of the program, youth cohorts developed individual and group projects reflecting on what they learned from each of the four online courses led by IREX. Participants based their projects on various course-related topics and in a number of formats, including memes, posters, videos, lesson plans, training agendas, poetry, public awareness raising activities, and even wall murals.”
