As the new school year starts in Afghanistan, almost 400,000 more girls have been deprived of their right to education, bringing the total to 2.2 million. “If these capable, bright young girls continue to be denied an education, then the repercussions will last for generations. Afghanistan cannot leave half of its population behind.” - UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. All girls in Afghanistan must be allowed to return to school now. The looting, which included at least 2,200 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic food - an energy-rich nutrient-dense paste - has put the lives of over 2,000 children in Sudan suffering from severe acute malnutrition at risk. "Stealing life-saving supplies meant for malnourished children is outrageous and a direct attack on their survival.” - UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. Details: https://lnkd.in/gBshZvGn

Over 850,000 people - nearly half of them children - have fled their homes in DR Congo due to conflict. This ongoing violence has led to a sharp rise in grave violations against children. UNICEF and partners are working to reunite unaccompanied children with their families and provide psychosocial support and referrals to services for those affected. But parties to conflict must immediately cease hostilities, protect children and respect international humanitarian law.

This is HORRIFYING. Once again, nowhere is safe in the Gaza Strip. The lives of one million children are at stake. The ceasefire must be reinstated and sustained. International humanitarian law must be respected by all parties, allowing the immediate provision of humanitarian aid, the protection of civilians and the release of all hostages.
