Revolutionizing Men's Health: Urologist, Certified Wellness Coach, And Personal Trainer Transforming Lives through Fitness, Nutrition, and Empowerment.
Dr. Hall, you’re delinquent… And you will be suspended tomorrow. I’ve seen these words countless times throughout my medical career. Each time, they make me cringe—and revolt. When you Google “delinquent,” the most common definition is: “Typically of a young person or that person’s behavior showing or characterized by a tendency to commit crime, particularly minor crime.” How exactly does that apply to me? I dictated the note. I just happened to forget to sign a few—out of a thousand. And suspended? The definition of suspended is to “stop something from being active.” But the irony is, the reason I’m “delinquent” on charts is because I’m too active. I’m taking call, operating, seeing consults, running a busy clinical practice, trying to meet ever-growing demands. While others are clocking out, taking breaks, or off for the weekend, I’m still working. I’m also the only urologist in the area. My nearest colleague is 45 minutes away, and my nearest competition is about the same. Sometimes, I’m working or on call for 15 to 20 days straight. Maybe this is a vent. Maybe I’m frustrated. But there’s a bigger issue here. Healthcare systems need to rethink the language they use—words that should encourage and motivate instead of demoralize. Organizational psychologists would cringe at this. Words matter. They shape our experiences, and they have a direct impact on burnout. And burnout? It’s not good for anyone, least of all our patients. Because when doctors are suspended or burned out, healthcare grinds to a halt. And when that happens, it’s the patients who suffer. Chat soon! TEDx Speaker | Nervous System Expert I Author I Empowering Corporates to Boost Peak Performance by Teaching Professionals to Master Nervous System Regulation I
Fact Check: According to a 2024 study, nearly 70% of professionals experience imposter syndrome at some point in their careers. This isn't a personal failing; it's a common challenge. My question to you is - do you ever feel like you don't deserve your success, despite all your achievements and hard work? If you said yes - you're not alone. Imposter Syndrome is a common experience among healthcare professionals, with many feeling they haven't earned their place or are just 'faking it.' My tips? 🌟 Remember, you've dedicated years to learning and practicing your craft. Your knowledge and skills are real and valuable. 💬 Talk About It: Sharing your feelings with trusted colleagues can help. You'll likely find they feel the same way, which can be incredibly validating. You've earned your place. If you’re ready to experience greater fulfillment in your work (not to mention your personal life) and a reduction in burnout, it’s time to get off the fence, confront your doubts or fears and step into meaningful, accessible support. Don’t just take my word for it: “Virtual physician coaching programs led by physician coaches can decrease burnout, improve professional fulfillment, and increase self-compassion. Non-institution-based opportunities for coaching available to any physician across the United States and internationally can facilitate access to effective physician well-being interventions,” writes Smith, et al (6/2024). Your nervous system is your ally in wellbeing. Let me guide you to its wisdom. Find the full article published in the journal BMC Psychology here: https://lnkd.in/gPmQA9P8

🔊 RC Storytelling: This is Rehabilitation Counselling! Often an under utilised allied health profession primarily because people don’t know how to describe what we can do Jane Allen has challenged us to tell stories to help showcase the talent that we have. ——————- One of the challenges working with high performing executives when they experience a health event that disrupts their career is that the gap between where they are And where they perceive they were Feels completely overwhelming and unachievable. Many RC’s will jump into a transferable skills analysis in an effort to prove to their client just how useful they are even after a health event. The problem with this is that if the clients can’t see their value or worth, they are not ready for a transferable skills analysis. I was working with a gentleman who experienced a major cardiac episode. He was young and never thought he would be in a position where he needed time away from work. His cardiac condition lead to overwhelming fatigue and he was in bed for up to 8 hours a day. He was becoming increasingly depressed and was feeling like a burden to his wife who was working FT and managing their 3 young children. The client was so fixated on what he could not do and really struggled to find somewhere to start in his recovery. I asked him- what’s one thing you wish you could do, that would make a massive difference to your family that you feel like you ‘should’ be able to do His answer was swift. It was taking the household bins to the street and bringing them back in again And that’s where we started. OT assessment that suggested EP involvement and within a month he was performing this task without difficulty The bins were the key! As he noticed his capability for activity improving, he of his own volition started doing more tasks and re connected with his career network The bins were the catalyst to him returning to work. Starting where clients are at, not where we want them to be is a crucial skill for an RC. #thisisrehabilitationcounselling #clientcenteredpractice #personalinjury

Professional Psychologist Coach of Leading Doctors MAPS PCC, Best Selling Author, Speaker, Stanford Compassion Ambassador, Meditation Teacher
If you’re a hospital doctor struggling with feeling stuck, it’s likely you’re pondering 1 or more of these three things: 1. Should I do another degree/masters 2. Should I change my public - private work ratios 3. Comparing yourself to your colleagues or cohort and wondering if you measure up Is it helping you decide what to do next? Sometimes these shifts help, very often none of these things really change your experience. Achieving can be a habit, a comfortable one, a familiar one. Habits are cognitively easy but not necessarily the way forward to a better life. If this is you don’t worry, we’ve helped hundreds of doctors move beyond feeling stuck, disappointed or frustrated with medicine. Send me a message or book a time with one of our coaches and see if we can help you too. #coachingfordoctors #doctors #medicine #bettermedicallife #insight #agency #thethrivingdoctor #coaching #psychologist #selfawareness #connection #groupcoaching #innergame #compassionateleadership #healthcareleadership #recalibrate #community
