Happy International Women's Day!   The women's inclusion events I attended when I first started my career were meetings for all the women to come together and discuss how we could best adjust our personalities and habits to make the men we were working with more comfortable. Of course the men felt left out during our meetings, so they would have their own spontaneous social events during this time, arguably increasing the gender gap.   Luckily corporate women's inclusion events have evolved over the last 10 years. We recognize the importance of support and active inclusion from male allies as well as the presence of unconscious bias impacting all of our decisions. That said, there's still such a long way to go.   This year's theme is #inspireinclusion and I can't say it better than this (TLDR; we are ALL responsible for supporting women):   "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion.   Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity.   IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere. 🌟 Celebrating International Women's Day Today, March 8, we proudly join the global community in honouring International Women's Day. This year's theme, "Count Her In: Invest in Women. International Women’s Day 2024: Celebrating Diversity and Empowerment! As we commemorate International Women’s Day, and celebrate the remarkable achievements, contributions, and resilience of women worldwide, let's also take a moment to reflect on the women who’ve influenced our journey—mentors, colleagues, friends, family, and the impact they have made on our life.   While we acknowledge the progress we've made towards gender equality, we also recognize the work that still lies ahead. Did you know that in 1997, only 4% of Shell's senior leadership were women? Today, that number has risen to 33%, but our journey continues until we reach equality at every level, striving closer to 50%.   International Women’s Day serves as a catalyst for discussions around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I). Let's remember that inclusion is not just about women; it's about everyone. Women cannot drive this change just by themselves; they also need the support and advocacy of men who stand with them, speaking out for equality. Each of us can take action in our collective journey towards positive change. Empowering Women: Celebrating International Women's Day (#IWD) Although every day can conceivably be International Women's Day, the event is historically celebrated on 8 March. This is the ideal time to reflect on women's remarkable achievements and contributions worldwide. This day serves as a reminder of our progress in advancing gender equality and the work that still lies ahead. My first introduction to IWD was at an #orphanage in Minsk, Belarus, when a young resident awarded me a hand-made emblem, a yellow paper flower, and a hug. I was deeply honored and overwhelmed by the excitement around IWD and the respect shown to women from all walks of life. Why celebrate? Women have profoundly shaped history and transformed societies from groundbreaking scientists and visionary leaders to dedicated caregivers and relentless activists. Their resilience, determination, and ingenuity continue to inspire future generations and drive progress across all sectors. It's a time to reinforce the need to empower women and girls everywhere. Let's create inclusive environments where every woman can thrive, pursue her dreams, and fulfill her potential. By championing gender equality in the workplace, promoting women's leadership and entrepreneurship, and investing in education and healthcare, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for everyone. As we continue celebrating #womenshistorymonth, at Iniskim Ammolite, we recognize #iwd2024 as a day to celebrate and continue the work throughout the year. How do we accomplish this? By continuing our efforts in 2023 and demonstrating support: During my visit to Malaysia in 2023, I had the privilege of meeting leaders from Women Of Will Malaysia (WOW), an inspiring NGO dedicated to empowering disadvantaged women through entrepreneurship. Women Of Will Malaysia not only helps women become entrepreneurs but also supports community development projects in both urban and rural areas of Malaysia. Looking ahead to 2024, we anticipate further discussions of collaboration with WOW, as their core values of inclusivity and diversity closely align with those of Iniskim Ammolite. If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that women possess an extraordinary ability to adapt to evolving circumstances. Though the global pandemic challenged both genders, studies show that women who were expected to balance life at home, work remotely, and have or do not have a family were impacted the most.
