Interesting study in the Floating Wind energy sector! Apollo, Global Energy Group, and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult have collaborated on a study focusing on tow-to-port operations for floating offshore wind turbines. The study reveals a crucial finding: between 10 to 30 turbines could necessitate tow-to-port operations annually from 2035 to 2040. This data, derived from a review of bottom-fixed turbine failure rates, suggests that the costs associated with tow-to-port could surpass both offshore installation and routine O&M expenses combined. These insights underscore the importance of exploring new approaches with the evolving technology landscape. Enhancing these operations will be essential to prevent inflated O&M costs and ensure the viability of future investments in offshore floating wind energy. #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #EnergyInnovation

The offshore wind industry is at an inflection point. Having proved to be an increasingly scalable source of renewable energy, the industry has enjoyed a decade of growth and value creation. Offshore wind is a clean renewable energy source—one of the least CO2-intensive forms of electricity generation, on par with onshore wind—and can help communities around the world meet their net-zero targets. The article is well summarized by Mc Kinsey which makes an objective read.

Ørsted Invests in Battery Energy Storage System Co-located with Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm Reading Time: 2 minutesØrsted has taken a final investment decision on a battery energy storage system, which will provide stability to the UK energy supply and reduce price volatility. The Tesla battery energy storage system will be installed on the same site as the onshore converter station for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm in Swardeston, near Norwich, Norfolk, in the eastern part of England. The battery’s location on the same land as the onshore converter station minimises disruption to those living and working nearby. The storage system has a capacity of 600 MWh (and a 300 MW power rating), […] - https://lnkd.in/dywXJHaX #windenergy #windturbines #offshorewind #windturbine #cleanenergy #climatechange #sustainability #energynews #smartenergy #windfarm #windindustry #renewableenergy #renewables #Ørsted #batteryenergystorage #energystorage #europe #offshorewind #renewableenergy #tesla #uk #windenergy #windfarm
