I'm a big fan of learning through podcasts (it also keeps me sane as I chauffeur my 3 kids in the afternoons). One of the most impactful podcasts I have ever listened to is Brené Brown introducing the concept of FFTs. This is a MUST listen for anyone involved in a start-up or navigating a new role or life change. The gist is when we experience something for the first time our brain and body process it very differently than a task or situation we have faced before. As Brené mentions, naming it an FFT empowers us to recognize it’s happening; that recognition empowers us to view the situation with a different lens. Add this to your playlist and share with your team. Shared language on this concept of doing things for the first time will change your organization. #brenébrown #FFT #startuplife

This is a podcast well worth deeper thought. Humans often fall into and us and them mindset, which while we may not endorse, at least need to recognize. The Remarkable Leadership Lessons Podcast hosted by Denise Cooper doesn't pull any punches and takes on the very second episode the topic of "Working while Black: Navigating Your Career in a White World of Work". Being the only one of anything can be tough. Even well meaning people may make miss steps let alone not so well meaning people you may encounter. It's a great insight into the lived experience that I and maybe you do not have. And the most critical part of the message from the guest Nat Alston I think is that building personal connections breaks down walls. All of the intentional and unintentional messages that we get about this and that sort of person, don't stand up to the power of personal connection and experience. https://lnkd.in/e6rNPS63

Global Neighbors, Absolutely necessary for UBUNTU USA! Unpacking the significance of this song, the Grammy performance, and the genius of these artists is phenomenal! Listen to the “Deep-Dive”, for many insights! In order for UBUNTU USA to be fertilized to grow, and participate in energetic alignment, ‘MUSAK’ and ‘STEWARDSHIP’ are key! Via music, the rough edges of division become smooth, like a timeless song or melody providing the balm for various levels of ‘soul-wounding’. This balm, as music, reveals the inherent human dignity and respect of divine inheritance for all upright, two-legged, Homo sapiens human beings. By design, human beings are in ‘Covenantal Stewardship’ with each other, as well as our other relations- be they animal, plant, element, or celestial! May It be so. Namaste 🙏🏾

When Tracy Chapman took the stage at the Grammys on Sunday, first we all cheered, and then the arena went completely silent as I think we all stood in awe. I first heard Chapman sing "Fast Car" two days before I turned 18. At 17, my daughter Lucy stood next to me - hearing Chapman sing along with Luke Combs. We watched as Taylor Swift, Jelly Roll and Brandy Carlile swayed to this incredible rendition - the first time they have played together. Combs bowed to Chapman at the end, looking in every bit of awe as we were as everyone stood clapping. It was a moment people have dissected, from its purity in bringing together different generations, genres and races to the idea that maybe it took a white man to sing a black woman's work 30+ years later to make it relevant. I think it can be both. I was lucky enough to discuss it with the brilliant Dana Taylor on USA TODAY's Excerpt. You can hear it as a podcast, or watch it on youtube. (Also, I learned that lots of people WATCH podcasts!.)

Felecia, Russell, EdD, author of the newly released book, Amplifying Black Undocumented Student Voices in Higher Education, combines a personal narrative and qualitative research on the experiences of Black undocumented students. She provides a clear sense of the challenges students face when they lack access and support to achieve their goals in higher education and beyond. This episode captures Dr. Russell’s passion and heart behind her book, while diving into statistics of undocuBlack immigrants, the importance of being aware of the myriad cultures and languages within the undocuBlack population, ways that we can support undocuBlack immigrants, etc. I was moved by her humility and wisdom in having an honest conversation about intersecting identities for UndocuBlack immigrants and the implications associated with inaccurate assumptions. Dr. Russell - thank you for sharing your story, research, and knowledge! I highly recommend her book to my colleagues in higher education, policymakers, college students of all grade levels, family, friends, and anyone interested in learning more about the Black immigrant experience.
We're thrilled to have the Presidents' Alliance's very own Felecia, Russell, EdD Russell on the latest episode of the World Wise Podcast with Rajika Bhandari, Ph.D.! Tune in to hear about: 🔹 Felecia's inspiring journey and the discovery of her undocumented status. 🔹 The unique challenges faced by Black undocumented students. 🔹 The intersection of race and immigration. 🔹 Felecia’s advice for young, undocumented Black students.
