"The true character of society is revealed in how it treats its children." As a criminal defense attorney, one of the aspects of my work that I find most rewarding is representing minors and young people—individuals who often find themselves at a daunting crossroads early in their lives. Whether it’s navigating through criminal cases or student disciplinary hearings, the stakes are incredibly high. These young clients typically come to me with clean slates, no prior arrests, and no experience with the justice system. They carry not only their own fears about how these proceedings could impact their futures but also the weight of their parents' and families' anxieties. As their advocate, I must carefully balance these concerns, ensuring that each decision we make together considers both their immediate needs and long-term wellbeing. The involvement of parents and families, while crucial, adds another layer of complexity. Their emotional investment, while often supportive, requires me to engage in a more comprehensive form of advocacy that extends beyond the young person and encompasses their entire support system. Despite the challenges, representing the youth is a profound responsibility that I cherish. It is a constant reminder that there is much to learn from these young individuals. Their resilience and perspective can inspire more seasoned professionals in unexpected ways. Moreover, it underscores the necessity of handling their cases with the utmost care and sensitivity—recognizing that the outcomes could shape their lives for years to come. #thepathtojustice #altawillawgroup #miamidefense #lawschool #lawyer #criminaldefense #altawillaw

Good insight
As I find myself on Zoom, witnessing prosecutors discuss cases, I'm reminded of my nearly 45-year journey in the legal field. What sets me apart? I've worn both hats – prosecutor and defense attorney. While many candidates can speak to their prosecutorial experiences, my unique background allows me to share stories of defending the innocent for over two decades. Few can claim to have stood up against a justice system that, at times, seems determined to impact the lives of people of color unjustly. In my years as a defense attorney, I've taken a stand for justice and fairness, even when it came at a personal cost. I faced challenges that jeopardized the safety of my family and myself, all in the pursuit of ensuring that every individual is treated fairly under the law. If elected, my commitment remains unwavering. I will continue to uphold the Rule of Law and the Constitution. My mission is to ensure that every litigant receives fair treatment, and the law is applied equitably. Together, let's work towards dismantling the prison pipeline and building a justice system that truly serves the community. 🌐⚖️ #JudicialCandidate #JusticeForAll #RuleOfLaw #LegalLeadership #DardenForJudge #ChristopherDardenForJudge #Seat130 #ExperienceMatters PAID FOR BY: CHRISTOPHER DARDEN FOR JUDGE 2024 FPPC ID: 1462453

Owner Frison Law Firm, P.C.| Retired Judge at Massachusetts Superior Court | U.S. Marine | Speaker | DEI Expert
If we walk this road together, what story will you tell me? I will tell you my answers to questions. Why are you leaving?" "Why are you giving up this power and authority so soon?" "Why are you stepping down from the bench at such a young age?" These are the questions that abound during this transition back to the practice of law. One part of the answer is about me, my relationship with the Massachusetts Trial Court, and my role in the world. Firstly, it has been extremely difficult to reconcile my work and contribution to a criminal justice system that still to this day discriminates against Black And Brown Americans. Check out: "Rethinking Culpability and Wrongdoing (in the Criminal Law - and in Everyday Life") This admittedly ambitious University of Cincinnati Law Review article aims to show that our prevailing understanding of culpability, a blending of moral responsibility with legal guilt, needs to be reexamined. Particularly during these turbulent times, focusing on the wrongdoer's imposition of unequal standing will put the U.S. justice system in a better position to foster the equality-supporting civic bonds and shared norms vital to a flourishing society. Barrister at Anagnostakis Law Offices| Passionate Advocate for Justice | Expert in European and International Criminal Law
The Unvarnished Truth: Navigating the Trenches of Criminal Law As a criminal lawyer, both in the international and domestic arenas, I've experienced the justice system in all its complexity. Today, I want to shed some light on the challenges we face daily, not just for myself, but for those considering a career in this demanding field. 1. Justice on a Shoestring: We often work with inadequate infrastructure and limited resources, making it difficult to serve our clients as effectively as we wish. 2. Bias in the Courtroom: Dealing with rude or biased judges is an unfortunate reality that requires us to stay resilient and focused on the task at hand. 3. Uphill Battles: We frequently find ourselves overcoming subpar police work to build strong cases—ensuring that justice is served is never easy. 4. Financial Struggles: Especially in public defense, the low remuneration can be disheartening, but the fight for justice keeps us going. 5. Emotional Toll: Balancing empathy for our clients with the need for professional detachment is a constant challenge, and it can take a toll on our well-being. To the next generation of lawyers: Understand that this field requires not just legal acumen but also resilience, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to justice. The road is tough, but the rewards are worth every struggle. #LegalLife #CriminalLaw #JusticeForAll #LawyerLife #LegalChallenges #CourtroomDiaries #LegalProfession #InspirationForLawyers #Resilience #LegalCommunity
