The big question is: Why do these large, very critical Diesel cycle engines involve so many instances of crankshaft [ extremely expensive and difficult to replace] and camshaft failures-damage. It is clear that most large marine engine users do not know how to get the highest possible reliability that prevents failures.
Would be great if the marine engineers and shipbuilders shifted their thinking from [let us purchase a good standard machine] into: How can we make the Main Propulsion Engines operate with zero failures, including Auxiliaries?
So that this post is not full of empty slogans will add real reliability points that every marine engine of 10 MW and above would love to have; here is the Christmas wish list of marine engines:
1- I hate crankshaft journal failures; please get me a laser cladding of the journals when buying new machines; Tungsten Carbide or Stellite cladding no less than Rockwell C-50 hardness.
2- I love clean oil and water; please never use direct seawater cooling on my lube oil, and engine cooling systems; use treated water. Also, make sure the heat exchangers for treated water complete metallurgy is 90-10 CUNI or of 100% 316 Stainless steel not only tubes but all parts. For the seawater exchangers those should be of Titanium, or 70-30 Copper Nickel, or Duplex SS.
3- I love thicker oils, they protect the journals, bearings, cylinders, and all rubbing parts. Please work with the engine manufacture to utlise the thickest viscosity oil he agrees with. Thin oils provide little rubbing protection.
4- I need clean air: Please install a self cleaning, pulse type air filter for the engine intake, with 5.0 micron absolute filtration rating or less.
5- I love driveline simplicity: Try to design me into a direct drive transmission, instead of gearing, as much as possible.
6- The full lubrication system componenets should be made of SS-304 or SS-316 stainless steel only. The reservoir can be lined internally with SS-304 sheets.
7- I will die without lube oil: please carefully design the lube oil system including pumps, so that it is impossible that oil does not reach all components. For example, an oil PCV may fail stuck; install a permanent bypass with restriction orifice around it so oil will always flow.

We've been going up in size but what about smaller ferrules ❓
OK, So how about 0.14 to 0.34 sized ferrules, surely not ⁉
YEP!
The CA 100 C can handle the stripping and crimping of these tiny ferrules no problem at all
With a cycle time of 1.5s and a duty cycle of up to 1,000,000 per year this machines is perfect for handling such small and fiddly processes.

#answer1 - do you work in #motorsport? As you know, #tiremakers usually provide confidential #tires, in various specs, and each produced in multiple #compounds. And they cannot be #tested cutting away rubber specimens for #DMA analysis.
Getting Storage Modulus and Loss Factor (or tan(delta)) of your tires, testing them directly on #track, allows to have available the basic info on their #thermal working range and, finally objectively, on the various specsattitude to exert #adhesive and #hysteretical friction phenomena.
