****TGIF-content post no. 119**** Today: The Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) Foundation released key recommendations outlining concrete actions governments can take to implement the Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) 💼🫱🏻🫲🏼 The paper, "Aligning Financial Flows with the Global Biodiversity Framework: Translating Ambition into Implementation," was developed in collaboration with leading financial institutions. 🌱 🌍 The agreement reached at COP15 in Montréal sent a strong signal about the urgency of tackling biodiversity loss alongside climate change. Transformative action across various economic sectors will be required to ensure resilient economies and planetary health. The FfB Foundation recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. However, the implementation of these recommendations will be crucial in the run-up to COP16, where countries must submit their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) outlining their approach to the GBF. 💡🔑 The paper provides four key recommendations for governments: 1) Require companies and financial institutions to assess, monitor, and disclose their nature-related risks, impacts, dependencies, and opportunities 2) Mandate Nature Transition Plans based on sectoral transformation pathways, and foster collaborative commitments 3) Actions from central banks and supervisors 4) Create economic incentives for businesses and financial institutions to maximize the mobilization of private finance. 📈💰 The FfB Foundation's paper is a powerful call from investors for governments to strengthen, broaden, and accelerate their national biodiversity policies and strategies. By fostering innovation, aligning incentives, and setting clear boundaries, governments can steer sectoral pathways towards reducing negative impacts, increasing positive impacts, and catalyzing private finance to bridge the biodiversity finance gap. 🌿 #Sustainability #Team #SustainableFinance #Biodiversity Source: https://lnkd.in/dM-tZyNp

📈 As part of the 2024 general meetings of #CAC40 companies in France, investors have launched a campaign to mobilize French companies to address their impacts on biodiversity, including through #ScienceBasedTargets #ForNature. 👇 Mirova, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers related to sustainable investing, and Phitrust, a management company for impact investing, have urged the French stock market index CAC 40 to accelerate action on biodiversity by engaging large French companies to adopt the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) reporting framework and get ready to set #ScienceBasedTargets #ForNature. As part of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive applicable since 1 January 2024, companies are also required to report on biodiversity as a material subject for their activities. 🌱 The investment companies write: "Beyond climate change, the preservation and conservation of biodiversity are structural challenges of sustainable growth on which urgent action is needed. "Half of global GDP is dependent on nature and its essential ecosystem services, and their collapse could lead to a $2.7 trillion GDP loss by 20302. According to the European Central Bank, 75% of European loans have been granted to companies highly dependent on nature." 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eabyNAkp ➡️ About science-based targets for nature: https://lnkd.in/enXegWGt #Biodiversity #StockMarket #SBTN #NaturePositive #SafeAndJust #ScienceBased #NatureLoss #Finance #Economics

We were encouraged to see TNFD pushing for greater Indigenous Peoples participation: this is a significant development, as it recognises the crucial role that Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) play in protecting and managing nature. IPLCs have traditionally been stewards of the land, and their knowledge and practices are essential for conserving ecosystems. The TNFD’s call for Indigenous participation is a welcome step towards ensuring that IPLCs benefit from the biodiversity market while also protecting their rights and interests. At the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) gave a call to action for the inclusion of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in shaping the emerging biodiversity market. https://lnkd.in/eRTC_3Uv Read more about Nature developments at Davos from our social venture Nature-based Insights here: https://lnkd.in/e9px8gWi

Explore emerging developments in investment industry thinking. Follow the First Sentier MUFG Sustainable Investment Institute as they explore why more investors are weighing into issues like biodiversity in their portfolios. *This content is intended for institutional/professional investors only.
Why nature? #Biodiversity and #nature more broadly are under threat like never before. While regulators, businesses and investors globally increasingly acknowledge nature-related risks to the economy and investment returns, many aspects of the interconnected relationship between nature and economic activities are still weakly understood. This video introduces some of the impacts and dependencies of regular business activities on nature, the importance of ecosystem #resilience, and the growing risks to companies and investors. The First Sentier MUFG Sustainable Investment Institute is launching a series of research projects on nature and biodiversity, with the next release to come out this year focusing on current practices in nature-related corporate disclosures. With thanks to our partner Altiorem. https://lnkd.in/efPJvceM
