2024 is going to be a great year. Why? Because we have momentum from the amazing work Out Leadership companies and leaders made possible in 2023. Check out our 2023 Year in Review below...In just one year, we convened over 5,200 leaders across 57 events in 6 countries to engage in LGBTQ equality--including the largest gathering of CEOs in history during Sydney World Pride--as well as published 7 pieces of original research on LGBTQ Board Diversity, LGBTQ+ Inclusive ESG, Board Diversity Guidelines for the UK and Australia, and LGBTQ Emerging Talent. Despite the attacks on DEI (not DIE btw as right wing folks have attempted to rename it), forward-thinking companies know the impact that LGBTQ inclusion brings, and while they may be quieter than a year ago, they're still doing the work. We've got an ambitious agenda ahead of us, and I'm pumped for it. If you're already involved with Out Leadership, thank you. If you're not yet, let's get you engaged! Bring on 2024. #lgbtqprogress #outleaders https://lnkd.in/erGvXiFV

ARTICLE WORTH READING! “Your Queer Career®: Work Advice from ‘The Gay Leadership Dude’” on Watermark. “Hello ‘Gay Leadership Dude®’ I’m hoping you can help me. I work for a smaller organization that doesn’t have any real diversity, equity and inclusion efforts (there’s a few things here and there). Some of us want to get resources to bring more formalized DE&I programming to our workplace, specifically get funding for an LGBTQ(+) employee resource group, but need to sell it to our senior leaders. They know this should be a strategic focus, but we need to share the big ‘why’ to them. Any thoughts?” ~ ERG Adam & Steve Read the article to see what advice I suggested. https://lnkd.in/ebHrCn6D #lgbtqa #diversity #inclusion #thegayleadershipdude #leadership

June is here, Pride marches and festivities have started, and the anti-DEI rhetoric remains firmly entrenched in our national consciousness and places of work. All of this has me thinking about the powerful and renewed focus on inclusion that many organizations and leadership teams are embracing to ensure that all can bring their whole selves to work. However, for many of us in the LGBTQ+ community, even if there are initiatives and programs focused on inclusion, we still might not feel a sense of safety and security to be our “authentic” selves. Results from the McKinsey & Co. and LeanIn Women in the Workplace 2023 report showed that LGBTQ women feel more pressure than any other group of women to hide their full identities at work. Let’s correct this by leaning into allyship which can bridge the gap between educational initiatives and action. Let’s focus on building human skills that help all better navigate vulnerability, trust building, and empathy. This is my hope for us this Pride month - will you join me?

The Lavender Ceiling? It’s like the glass ceiling but for LGBTQ+ folk. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ 0.9% -> Research shows that board seats of Fortune 500 companies are only 0.9% queer. That number is even lower when we look at LGBTQ+ folx in CEO positions. Rather than resigning ourselves to the systemic barriers, I invite us to leverage the challenge as an opportunity to break through the lavender ceiling. Visibility matters. Beyond visibility, the more adversity individuals overcome (i.e., growth needed) to reach leadership, the more empathy might be engrained into the leadership of an organization. What kind of company culture might that create? What does that mean for resilience and grit? What kind of ripple effect might occur? Consider getting involved with organizations like Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors. Celebrate ground that has been taken. Don’t give up.

🌈 #LGBTQ+ Representation matters – but we still have a long way to go! The inaugural Fortune LGBTQ+ Leaders List is a major milestone, ranking top CEOs, Chairs, and Co-Founders who are openly LGBTQ+ at companies generating over $100M in revenue. However, as the 2024 LGBTQ+ Board Monitor from the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors shows, the numbers reveal just how much work remains to be done. 📉 Despite progress, LGBTQ+ individuals occupy only 0.9% of Fortune 500 board seats, and even fewer hold CEO positions. These figures demonstrate the ongoing challenges in breaking through the “lavender ceiling” and ensuring our corporate leadership truly reflects the diversity of our society. 🌍 At the Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors, we are pushing for change. Through advocacy, mentorship, and partnerships, we are working to increase the visibility and representation of LGBTQ+ professionals at the board level. 🚀 Let’s celebrate the leaders who made the list but recognize the significant gaps that still exist. Representation at the top is key to driving real change! 💼 🔗 Learn more about our efforts and read the 2024 LGBTQ+ Board Monitor: https://lnkd.in/eJnHRHeY 🔗 Check out the complete list of Fortune LGBTQ+ Leaders here: https://lnkd.in/eRqhBdiK #LGBTQLeadership #BoardDiversity #RepresentationMatters #Inclusion #CorporateGovernance #Fortune500 #LavenderCeiling

We recently took a look at the Forbes ranking of current LGBTQ+ leaders and were thrilled by the global representation, particularly from the UK! António Simões at Legal & General / David Hynam at LV= / Julia Hoggett at London Stock Exchange / & Eugenio Pirri - FIH at Dorchester Collection LGBTQ+ CEOs play a vital role as role models, demonstrating that leadership and success are achievable regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Their visibility helps break down stereotypes, inspires others within the community, and drives positive change in corporate cultures by promoting inclusivity and diversity. By championing policies that foster equality and supporting LGBTQ+ employees and suppliers, they not only lead by example but also help build trust and loyalty in diverse markets. Ultimately, LGBTQ+ leaders are paving the way for a more inclusive and authentic future in business. https://lnkd.in/dscCYhiY
