How not to answer the interview question "Tell me a bit about yourself"... 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 "Well, it all started in 1994 in New Mexico, where I was the 3rd child in a family of 5....I was always interested in science, and even though I loved bike riding and baseball, I decided one day to enroll in a science fair....(35 minutes later), and that's how I got here today." Some people might find that story interesting, but I can promise you that this is not what the hiring manager was asking for. It won't help you get the job. 𝗗𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 Spend 90-120 seconds talking about 3 career highlights or accomplishments. Have those highlights relate directly to the things that the role says are requirements. That's it. Seriously. 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀? We'll go through that in the Trulitica Life Science Biotech Careers Course. 👉Presale begins Feb 05 for $175 👉Course Launches on March 15 Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/greSKCTY #biotechnology, #careers

Super excited to present today to trainees at NINDS at the NIH on Navigating Career Choices. I love giving this talk to help students and postdocs Navigate choices important for their career decisions. This is 1 talk in a series of 10 career focused talks I am doing for NINDS over the next year! The talk desc is here: this talk provides tips and advice in order to structure an effective career exploration process and ultimately a career search. We will focus on important questions to ask in order to identify “drivers” that can influence career choices. Once identified, we will provide examples for how to leverage these drivers during a career search. We will cover a range of career paths outside of traditional academic PI and industry research roles in order to increase awareness of the numerous career paths available. We will talk about timing for these activities and how to track progress, focus your time and lessen the feeling of being overwhelmed. Lastly, we will provide tips for how to engage others to help you, so that you are not alone in this process.
