There was quite a bit going on in The Huddle - our inclusive community of female founders - last week. We had the obligatory sharing of Easter break and school holiday shenanigans photos. One member took the first step into new business territory and requested everyone holds her accountable as she explores her idea further during the coming weeks at our Get Sh*t Done (co-working) sessions. Another member had experienced some staffing changes that had left her with a bit of a business conundrum, so asked for the insight of her fellow members re how to handle things, or whether they'd dealt with anything similar previously. We started to arrange our next few social nights out*. 🙌 A few of us are wondering what we've let ourselves in for as we'll be heading to the inaugural Fuckup Nights Tees Valley on 17th April. Then later in the month, we're off to 'Women & Art' at THE NORTHERN STUDIOS via Ladies, Wine & Design. And of course everyone is clutching their to-do lists and chomping at the bit to get back to some kind of 'normality' - we use that word lightly! - during this week's Get Sh*t Done co-working session on Tuesday. What is it to start a family office? For some you walk into an existing structure for others you need to build that structure. When I started with our family back in 2009, it was a chair, desk and phone. This can be daunting but allows one to build a culture and a process that works for that individual and family they represent.

I had the pleasure of attending the Automatic Gathering last week and left inspired. The Forth Hotel by New City Properties, LLC & Method Co. is an instant classic, and being surrounded by such a high-caliber group was energizing. Here are a few highlights: 1. As my dad has always said, if you can create real community, success follows. Across every panel—from developers to operators to capital providers—the emphasis on the need for community was clear. In a world that feels increasingly disconnected, this focus is clearly top of mind. 2. Homegrown, Sugarcoat, and Switchyards brought invaluable insights at the intersection of capital and brick and mortar retail services. Despite vastly different business models and real estate needs, these companies' growth stories reflects the grit and vision it takes to scale brick-and-mortar businesses. At Clay Cove, we are fortunate to work with operating partners that embody this same drive and determination. 3. With retail supply at an all-time low, tenants can be choosier than ever. I heard again and again that the best partnerships between tenants and building owners are founded on candor and mutual respect for the value each party brings—we walk this talk by building true partnerships with our operating partners. 4. Jodi McLean’s of EDENS concept of "discordant harmony" as a cultural framework for teams really hit home. It’s something we’re actively building at Clay Cove as we grow our team—balancing openness, respect, and constructive challenge. 5. This ones for the locals....Atlanta needs more active, equitable collaboration between the arts and development communities. Toni Williams' panel with Atlanta's cultural icons highlighted the importance of spaces where creativity thrives and Atlanta’s culture can evolve. The Goat Farm (TriBridge Residential) event last Saturday was a perfect example—let's see more of this! Excited to bring these insights back to Clay Cove Capital, where aligning the interests of operators, investors, and communities is central to what we do. Celebrating 5 Years at the Same Desk: A Tale of Trust and Steady Relationships Reflecting on my desk journey, my trusty Dell screen has been the silent witness to it all—endless Excel sheets, two replacements, and miraculously no coffee spills! But hey, my shelf life outlasts that tech machine! In this office environment, trust is like a favorite pair of worn-in sneakers. My work holds a purpose, my colleagues are the secret sauce making Mondays bearable and Fridays legendary, and the business? It better take care of me—I've been fueling it with spreadsheets and PowerPoint decks for half a decade! Amidst the "office climate change," it's the people who kept me going. Some sat within arm’s reach, while others were just a teams message away, these relationships turned routines into shared victories, inside jokes, and coffee breaks. Cheers to 60 months of desk-bound adventures, trust falls, and camaraderie.
