Rh #alloimmunization is a condition where #antibodies develop against fetal red blood cell #antigens, 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Despite its significance, there is limited research on the awareness of this condition among pregnant women. Soha Albeitawi, Saba Alsmadi, 𝗝𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶, Mu'taz Hanandeh, 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗵, 𝗔𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗶 𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗵, 𝗬𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗛𝗮𝗾, 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 signed a cross-sectional study which aimed to evaluate the awareness of Rh alloimmunization among pregnant women in northern #Jordan, as a preliminary step towards improving healthcare services. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire that covered 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲, 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗗 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The results showed that 39.5% of participants were aware of Rh alloimmunization, its complications, and anti-D immunoglobulin. A significant association was found between higher #knowledge levels and factors such as: ➡ higher education ➡ better socioeconomic status ➡ first pregnancy ➡ negative Rh status ➡ exposure to sensitizing events during pregnancy ➡ anti-D immunoglobulin administration

I am thrilled to share my latest publication on Placental malaria and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This article provided comprehensive data collected through many laboratory investigations on peripheral, placental and cord blood as well as placental biopsy collected from parturient women in Majang zone, Gambella region. Malaria is a serious public health problem particularly to the pregnant women, fetus, newborn and beyond. The magnitude, severity, risk factors and adverse consequences of malaria were covered in the article showcasing its relevance in calling for action and guiding the potential targets for intervention. #Thank_you_GRHB! & #Enjoy_reading! from this link:⇛ https://lnkd.in/evqgPVfW

🤷🏾♀️The What: PPA is a severe public health issue present in approximately 22% to 50% of women in developed countries. Approximately 42% of pregnancies worldwide are impacted by anemia, defined by the World Health Organization as hemoglobin (Hb) values under 11 g/dl. 🙆🏽♀️Why it matters: These low iron stores may carry over from pregnancy to the postpartum period, which is a critical period for mothers and their infants. Recovery of iron deficiency anemia also takes longer following pregnancy, aggravating adverse effects. Data has indicated a 1.66-fold increased risk of depression symptoms among postpartum women with anemia vs those without anemia. 💁🏽♀️What we can do: 1. Current recommendations include measurement of Hb concentration following significant peripartum bleeding. All women should also receive a complete blood count plus a serum ferritin level at 4 to 8 weeks postpartum. 2. UK guidelines recommend measurement of Hb after delivery, a blood loss over 500 ml, detection of antenatal uncorrected anemia, and symptoms indicating possible anemia. 3. Achieving an adequate iron status is vital for preventing PPA, with data indicating improved postpartum recovery of hematological and iron parameters from iron supplementation after delivery. Guidelines include 80 to100 mg elemental iron daily for 3 months to manage mild to moderate PPA. #maternalhealth #childhealth #publichealth #iealmpactConsulting ##drayoadenuga https://lnkd.in/ehCMpkGu

🧑🔬 Amanda Hayward, Head of Global Business Development presented our research, in partnership with HealthLumen, on quantifying the proportion of women at risk of an FNAIT pregnancy in diverse populations in the United States at NORD today. The study reveals key findings on fetal/neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) risk across diverse ancestries for the first time. ˃˃ Using genetic data, researchers found that nearly 20,000 pregnancies in the U.S. are at higher risk for FNAIT each year—far more than previously estimated. ˃˃ The study highlights that non-White populations also carry significant FNAIT risk, challenging past assumptions. ˃˃ These findings make a compelling case for universal screening of pregnant women for FNAIT risk, regardless of race or ethnicity, and we’re proud to play a part in advocating for a future where this is the norm. #HealthEquity #FNAIT #MaternalHealth #NORD #NORD24

I was part of a meeting yesterday on Highly sensitized #CKD patients (HSPs) and a highlight was that the majority are female, making it more difficult for women to get a kidney transplant. This is a global phenomenon. This is of course because women are sensitized through pregnancy but in the African context, pregnancy also comes with other risks involving hemorrhage & increased malaria risk, which increases chances of blood transfusions and further sensitization. Furthermore, women tend to have autoimmune conditions that increase their PRA (Panel reactive antibodies) aka immune sensitisation. As we think about the social inequities in #TransplantAccess for women, considering the physiological ones, are there any deceased organ listing point systems that consider gender specifically? As we age, our ability to produce fertile eggs naturally decreases as we are born with a finite number of eggs stored in our ovaries (1-2 million) but over time, our reserves naturally decline through our reproductive years, and can also be impacted by lifestyle, environmental, hormonal and genetic factors, until we reach menopause when our AMH production naturally stops. AMH testing allows us to take a snapshot review of your ovarian reserve, but it does not tell us anything about the quality or health of your remaining eggs. The ideal AMH level for pregnancy is over 15 pmol/L. Women under 35 may be in the higher range whereas women in their late 30s or older would naturally have a lower AMH level as their reserves have declined. If you would like to discover your AMH level - you can order an AMH Test Kit from IVF Matters to take in the comfort of your own home. You will receive a report of your current AMH levels in 1 working day through our secure patient portal. Dr Koita also offers a free clinical review and complimentary call to explain your results so you can ask her any questions. You can order the kit here: https://lnkd.in/eZdGRTjN

Yesterday, one of our regular clients of three years reached out after reviewing the corporate health screening summary we sent her. She texted, "Will pregnancy lead to high AFP? I noticed one of my pregnant employees has a high AFP." Elevated AFP during pregnancy is normal, as AFP is produced by the baby and enters the mother's bloodstream. But what exactly is AFP? AFP, or Alpha-Fetoprotein, is commonly known as a cancer marker, especially useful in detecting liver cancer. However, high AFP levels can also be elevated for other reasons, not just cancer. For individuals who aren’t pregnant, high AFP levels may require further evaluation to rule out liver disease, certain cancers, or other underlying conditions. If the AFP levels in her employee are very high, it would be best to consult with a doctor for follow-up tests to determine the cause. It’s always rewarding to help our clients get the answers they need and learn together in the process 😊 #healthscreening #corporatewellness #wellnessjourney #vealthme

A drug that could extend women’s fertility by five years – and help them live longer in better health – is safe for a young, healthy population, according to early results of a study. The research into repurposing the immunosuppressant rapamycin has been hailed a “paradigm shift” in how menopause is studied. The Validating Benefits of Rapamycin for Reproductive Aging Treatment (Vibrant) study is designed to measure whether the drug can slow ovaries ageing, thereby delaying menopause, extending fertility and reducing the risk of age-related diseases. The study, which will eventually include more than 1,000 women, now has 34 participants aged up to 35, with more women joining every day. https://buff.ly/3LMSYMz #womenshealth #femtech #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #startups #innovation #health #medtech #healthcareresearch #femalehealth #genderhealthgap #reproductivehealth #venturecapital #vc #funding #investment #grants #maternalhealth #periods #menstruation #sexualhealth #sextech #menopause #fertility #pregnancy #postpartum #eggfreezing #IVF #healthequity #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #hormonehealth

A large study led by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio shows that women infected with SARS-CoV-2 are more likely to go on to develop long COVID than men. Writing in JAMA Network Open, first author Dimpy Shah, MD, PhD, an assistant professor at UT Health San Antonio, and colleagues from the RECOVER Consortium report that overall female sex increased the risk of developing long COVID from 31–44%. When broken down by age groups, this association was stronger in women over the age of 40. It was also influenced by menopause and pregnancy status, with non-pregnant and non-menopausal women being at higher risk for long-COVID than pregnant or menopausal women. “Numerous studies have shown that males have more severe acute COVID-19 cases and higher mortality than females,” explain the authors. “However, emerging literature suggests that females may be at greater risk for new and persisting symptoms following SARS-CoV-2 infection.”
