"Provide value" is probably the worst advice #Instagram gurus could give. And while it is true - you do need to give your audience SOMETHING through your content - following the advice to provide "value" is costing you money. Yes, your content should delight your audience. It should entertain them or inspire them. As a creator I'm now viewing Instagram as a dynamic visual portfolio and community landing page vs a one-stop- outreach platform. Here are the thoughts around this mindset & strategy shift 👇: -Rather than expecting immediate conversions, I'm leveraging Instagram as a visual platform to advertise my brand's offerings (think virtual storefront). The goal is to pique interest, share value, and direct my community to platforms where deeper connections and transactions can happen more seamlessly. -This change has significantly reduced burnout. By acknowledging that conversions might not happen on this platform, I've set realistic expectations. It's freed up mental space to create authentic content without the constant pressure for immediate results. Instagram is a part of the marketing funnel, not the final destination. -Creators & Brands, let's redirect our focus to owned media like newsletters and websites. Do you measure sends per reach? The Instagram algorithm is constantly evolving, which means our strategies must evolve too. In a recent Q&A, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri highlighted crucial metrics for brands to focus on. He emphasised that brands should pay more attention to the number of sends per reach. “More important than watch time or like and comment counts is send rates, [and] generally, I think the rate is more important than the count. So the number of sends per reach, the number of likes per reach, the number of comments per reach. But sends per reach correlate more, in my experience, with overall reach than anything else, because we are looking to help people discover content they want to connect with friends over, and so sends is a great proxy for that sort of connection over creativity.” This insight reveals how Instagram is shifting its focus away from traditional metrics including likes, comments, and video views. Instead, the platform is prioritising content that encourages sharing within communities.
