The terminal with end loading ASC's like the terminals in Norfolk, delivers the safest and fastest truck turn time of all terminal handling systems, when designed to handle the landside peak load. This peak load comes about because of the nature of the hinterland logistic operations, which are typically not 24/7, but take place merely in a 16/5 pattern. This means that in a limited time range the cargo that comes in 24/7 via the waterside, goes out at small scale in smaller time windows, leading to peaks. Peaks that can be managed to a certain extent by appointment systems, as well as yard preparation (housekeeping).
