DOK-ING, in collaboration with Humana Nova from Cakovec, has successfully tested a pilot plant for processing #waste #textiles to produce #hydrogen. The initiative, unveiled on April 30 at the project's final conference, is part of a €700,000 development project co-financed by the #NorwegianInnovationFund. The project aimed to create the first #LOOPER plant for #textilewaste that intends to revolutionise current methods of #incineration and #landfilling. The DOK-ING Indeloop team developed an innovation capable of processing one tonne of textiles daily, converting them into hydrogen, ash, and soot through gasification. This process emits no pollutants and the resulting ash can be repurposed for construction materials. 🌎♻️ Unlocking Circular Value Chains: Insights from the Eigersund Næring og Havn KF Armed with the knowledge of circular material usage at the Port of Zwolle, our voyage now takes us to the Port of #Eigersund. Let’s explore how they’re constructing a robust #circular #ValueChain there! 🌟 What can the Eigersund Næring og Havn KF do with excess materials❔ #REDIIPorts work-package 1 wrapped up its first pilot on analysing excess materials (“#waste”) in three North-Sea port regions. The report is published and can be found on the REDII Ports website: https://lnkd.in/dfkxdM27 🔍 In short: The research aimed to identify opportunities for more #circular material usage. Three North-Sea ports (and REDII partners) were used as case studies in this research: Eigersund Næring og Havn KF (NO), Skagen Havn - Port of Skagen (DK) and Port of Zwolle | Port of Opportunities (NL). 📝 Approach for Port of Eigersund: Due to the lack of a national waste-data register in #Norway, data gathering was more difficult as it had to be done through individual companies (lesson learned!). We received data from two of the main waste-processing companies in the area. However, it being just 2 processors, it can not be said whether these materials are the most interesting or relevant material flows in the port region.   🎯 Outcomes: opportunities for Port of Eigersund Instead of primarily utilizing excess materials (“waste”) as #fuel or #landfilling them, there are opportunities to redirect them into more circular value chains. For example, wood (chips) can be reused or recycled into construction materials. Food waste can be composted or digested for #biogas. Bottom-ashes can be reused in construction projects. And even materials like Asbestos could be treated by using novel technologies to decompose toxic substances, reuse compounds and avoid landfilling of toxic materials in the proximity of natural areas. Using materials more circularly enables closing loops regionally and retaining value. This week, on Wednesday, we celebrated 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 🍀. A day on which we remember the importance of preserving the richness of our natural environment.
