Playful twist. I'm always surprised - and quite curious - when I come across places that hide behind an apparently nonsensical facade, except for the echoes of their past. My curiosity is heightened, however, when I discover that inside there's a modern and creative, I would even say daring, project. In this case, we're talking about a bakery located in an old foundry from the 1930s, a building that had been abandoned for many years. Often, the most compelling design ventures emerge from creative collaborations, especially those that push the conventional boundaries of the participants' respective fields. Such is the case with Red Jane, a bakery in Crete that opened its doors last summer under the guidance of hotelier Nikos Tsepetis, the mastermind behind the ammos hotel. When he came up with the idea of transforming an abandoned interwar foundry in the center of town into an artisan bakery, he enlisted renowned London-based designer Michael Anastassiades to create everything from the interior to the logo and packaging. In addition, Eyal Schwartz, the former head baker and co-owner of London's iconic E5 Bakehouse, was brought in to curate the bakery's menu. With a playful nod to Jane Fonda's controversial "Hanoi Jane" Vietnam photo, this collaboration resulted in a space where contemporary design seamlessly integrates with the building's industrial heritage. It pays tribute to the artistry and physical labor of baking, introducing a modernist-inspired design language infused with exquisite craftsmanship that serves as a beautiful contrast to the building's industrial history. Milan has effectively become a leading European capital, rich in cultural and entertainment aspects, in addition to fashion, design, and food. Contraste has been closed for a few years and now reopens with an interior design project that, at first glance, has a lot of theatrical elements. What stands out the most is the chromatic diversity: five rooms with contrasting colors, yet very harmonious in their entirety, generating visual emotions. Each room is inspired by one of the four elements and has been designed by transforming 19th-century vedutism into a puzzle. The Edo period (1603-1868) in Japan witnessed the rise of many remarkable artists, among whom Ito Jakuchu伊藤若冲 (1716-1800) holds a special place. Known for his unique style and rich use of color, Jakuchu’s works continue to inspire awe and admiration. Living on Kyoto’s Shijo Street, he might have crossed paths with another great painter of his era, Nagasawa Rosetsu 長沢蘆雪, who also resided on the same street. Today, Shijo Street, just a few hundred meters long, is lined with souvenir shops for foreign tourists. At first glance, these shops might appear ordinary and outdated, yet, upon closer inspection, one discovers stores with remarkable design and rich historical backgrounds. This blend of the old and the new, where history meets contemporary design, is what makes Shijo Street uniquely captivating. In my quest to bring the essence of Japan’s rich cultural heritage into the homes of our foreign clients, I find myself drawn to these shops on Shijo Street. Here, amidst the bustling tourist trail, are treasures of interior decor that not only reflect the traditional artistry of Japan but also resonate with modern aesthetics. Each piece sourced from these stores carries with it a story, a piece of history, and a touch of the artistic genius that once roamed these streets. What's the story behind the art in everyday items? How does our cultural heritage shine through in today's luxury? Have you ever thought about the tales woven into handcrafted pieces? Witnessing the blend of tradition and luxury in these creations, we start to see art in a new light, redefining our perception of it. Nestled within One&Only Gorilla's Nest, a Luxury Resort in the Northern Province, is this wall of an assortment of black and white woven sisal plates. These plates are not just part of the decor; they are a celebration of Rwandan culture, beautifully transformed into a unique kind of luxury. The weaving techniques, inspired by Agaseke baskets and using similar materials, showcase the exquisite craftsmanship and cultural richness inherent in Rwandan artistry. The traditional craftsmanship displayed here is more than luxury; it's a connection to our history and culture. These plates, more than mere decorative items, tell a story of dedication and the value of human touch in creativity. They stand as a testament to the beauty and simplicity found in items made with love and skill, offering a unique, meaningful, and timeless luxury. Japandi -- What's that? I was flipping through a home-style magazine & in one of the pages, this word caught my eye. Well it turns out, it's a new trend of interior design concept, which embraces two powerful concepts of two different region---- JAPan & ScANDInavian = JAPANDI From Japan-- This design embraces "wabi-sabi"--- a Japanese concept that accepts minimalism & finds beauty in 3 big principles of life --- ○ Nothing is perfect ○ Nothing is complete ○ Nothing is permanent From Scandinavia-- The Danes live by a principle called "Hygge" - pronounced as "húèga" which celebrates ○ Embracing nature ○ Equality & Togetherness ○ Grace & Gratitude ○ Harmony & Comfort I then recalled one of the sales managers of a new project of Total Environment, briefly talking about it. Japanese & Danes are known to be one of the healthiest & happiest people.
