Encouraging more women to join mining industry is a very significant step. The mining industry has long been recognized for its critical role in the Canadian economy, yet it has struggled with gender disparity. Initiatives like the one funded by the federal government are crucial in breaking down the barriers that women face in entering and advancing within this field. Such funding can support mentorship programs, educational opportunities, and workplace policies that promote a more inclusive environment. Encouraging more women in mining not only enhances diversity but also enriches the industry with a wider range of skills and ideas, ultimately leading to more resilient and innovative practices. It is imperative that all stakeholders, from educational institutions to corporate leaders, actively participate in and support these efforts to ensure lasting change.

Happy International Women's day to all women in the mining industry! 👯♀️ And what a fitting week it's been discussing with many women about their achievements in the workplace. In one conversation, my candidate had increased the female workforce from 5 to 15% since working with her company!!! 📈 Encouraging and motivating women to achieve more in a male dominated industry is now the new normal. I hope things continue to look up and up for women not only in mining but across the world 🗺 #iwd2024 #womensday2024 #women #womenempowerment #miningindustry #mining #miningcareers #miningnews

On 18 June 2024, Marampa Mines Limited (MML) joined the global community in observing International Day of Women in Mining, an annual global campaign that honours the incredible achievements of women and their advancement and inclusion in mining. We collectively and individually celebrated MML’s continuous commitment toward diversity and gender parity. We hosted engaging activities, including a panel discussion on the theme “I am Mining and I Belong,” where colleagues shared personal stories to inspire others. The day was filled with fun, recognition of outstanding women, cultural dance displays, and a live art station with images depicting the roles and positions of women in the mining industry today. Towards the end of 2023, MML surpassed its 30% target for female representation among direct employees, reaching 34%, a remarkable milestone. This commitment to a minimum 30% female headcount also extended to our contractors. Continuing to develop women at all levels in our workforce underpins our determination to prioritise diversity, equality and building a strong workforce in an industry where a more diverse range of perspectives and skills can contribute to raising productivity, innovation, safety, resilience and making a positive impact. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this day unforgettable. MML is determined to continue leading the way in championing diversity and inclusion in mining. #womeninmining #IDWIM2024 #diversity #communities #womeninmetals #ironore #MarampaBlue #metalsmerchant

June 15th is International Day for Women in Mining (IDWIM), a global day to celebrate the achievements of women in mining while raising awareness of the need for gender equality action in the mining sector. IDWIM’s 2024 theme is “I am Mining and I Belong”. It carries a powerful message of inclusion, empowerment, claiming space, and advocating for positive change within an industry undergoing transformation. As the mining sector evolves, this phrase serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse individuals who contribute to it and the importance of creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. As an Indigenous owned, heavy construction company working in the mineral exploration, mine development and mining sector, IDWIM resonates deeply for TNDC. It doubles-down our commitment to carving out pathways for women, particularly Tahltan women, providing them with the tools, training and opportunities to grow, develop and ascend within our ranks. This day reinforces our commitment to transforming the mining industry – a field where women have historically been underrepresented. Women continue to make up only 15.9% of the BC Mining workforce and 14% of the Canadian mining workforce (Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) 2024). TNDC has superseded the industry average with 41% of our workforce being female. Our dedication goes beyond mere statistics; it is about fostering a workplace culture that thrives on safety, respect, equality, equity and inclusivity for our female employees. By championing these values, TNDC aims not only to contribute to a more gender-balanced world but also to inspire change within the mining sector and beyond. We are committed to leading by example, demonstrating the powerful impact of equity, inclusion and diversity in driving innovation and success. Our Tahltan HEO Training Program, with its 100% female participation this year, and our Employee HEO Training Program, highlight our dedication to providing the tools, training and opportunities for women, particularly Tahltan women, to thrive and lead.
