New home, new name, new era. Just last week, Cascade PBS celebrated the grand opening of their new headquarters on Seattle's First Hill. We completed this 53,700 sf renovation, in collaboration with JPC Architects and their innovative designs. Highlights include cutting-edge digital production capabilities, a 240-seat event space, reception center, and terrace with views of Mount Rainier and room to host 300 people. In the spirit of always serving the public, Cascade PBS intends to use this space to truly connect with the local community. Recently Cascade PBS also announced their new name, bringing together their two nonprofit media outlets, KCTS 9 TV and Crosscut.com, under one title. Congratulations to Cascade PBS, on your new home, your new name, and your new era ahead! We're so grateful we could be a part of this journey. #builttruebuilttogether #ribboncutting

Read this thoughtful piece on arts and culture nonprofits by Jamie (Schumacher) Kalakaru-Mava. Without arts and culture nonprofits, what would arts access look like? What would our conversations look like? And our relationships?
Wrote an opinion piece for last weekend’s Star Tribune on the state of arts and culture nonprofits in Minnesota: A healthy garden of relationships can broaden our perspective, deepen our program work and make a skilled, well-rounded team possible. But those activities that make the relationship side of the work accessible for regular folk are hard to quantify, tricky to fund and harder to make ‘sustainable’ year to year. The creative nonprofits of Minnesota house much of this activity. Measures in annual reports quantify things like the number of performances staged or the number of shows exhibited, but how do we quantify the relational aspect of all that programming? There’s no space on the 990 to track who ran into each other in the lobby and decided to grab a coffee. Though we don’t track it, there is value in those in-between spaces. The beauty of relational work is not unlike the aurora borealis many of us spent the past weekend chasing. We sought to capture in image form the spectacle of light raining over, down and around us. Was the miracle captured in the Instagrammable photo, or was it the moment that stitched us together for a needle in time? And still, we chased northern lights even as our own duly named overnight arts festival - Northern Spark - poetically drew its activity to a close. We are ever hungry for those ephemeral acts of spontaneous beauty.

A HARRIS MISSION: Tobias Harris (now with the Detroit Pistons) & his brother & former G-League forward, Terry Harris, are teaming up to bring much-needed affordable housing to Los Angeles. The Harris brothers said they are currently in development to bring 270 affordable housing units in three locations to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The projects include a 33-unit development, 93-unit development with retail, and a 190-unit development. The goal is to have 1,000 units in development in neighborhoods across the city by the end of the year. Terry Harris said that all of the properties are expected to be built from scratch and not refurbished old buildings. “This is a project that my younger brother and myself are in the works on now,” Tobias Harris told Andscape. “We are always figuring out ways to give back. In Los Angeles, there is a housing shortage. A lot of this is his initiative that I am supporting. It’s still early, but we’re working on a lot of things to make it happen.” Athletes catch a lot of heat for various reasons, among them: social responsibility and salaries. There are a LOT of stories like this throughout the NBA and sports as a whole but they don't get the press. Many athletes give back. It's usually neighborhood initiatives like this that often go unnoticed. Thank you to the men and women like this who continue to #makeadifference 👏 ------------------------------ Storytelling: Connection Is Everything ➕ Follow Seal Media for more great stories & content! ♻ Share this post to grow & inspire your network 💹 #sports #community #givingback #socialresponsibility #helpingothers #nonprofit #NPO #housing #mediapartner #orangecountyca #losangeles

As much as I love doing business, nothing is more important to me than my nonprofit Save The Creatives Foundation. Being able to provide different spaces, educational workshops, and engaging interactions for creators is super important to me. Our Vision is to empower creatives to use the arts to become hyper-efficient advocates for social change. Storytelling inspires action and drives change to unite communities. Artistic expression is a universal language, by leveling the playing field, Save The Creatives Foundation (savethecreatives.org) gives voice to local artists and amplifies their reach and impact on a global level. This common language of the arts allows change to be shared and spread building momentum for global expression starting within local communities.
