Hiring Frank Elkins as CEO of Selco Builders Warehouse and GB Distribution for Grafton Group plc is a stunning acquisition! He is a true industry legend and a man of the upmost integrity. He will lead this business to even greater success, building on the excellent work of Howard Luft. If I were an executive at Stark and especially Travis Perkins I would now be very concerned. How many people will follow Frank out of the ones they have left who haven't joined John? How many customers will make the switch?
How did Travis Perkins manage to lose so many good leaders? People like Frank, John Carter, and Kieran Griffin. Frank or Kieran could have been their next CEO.
As I said in a post the other day, succession planning is vital to the success of a business. Of course, people leave companies for many different reasons. Some are pushed, others make the choice, wanting a new challenge in a new environment. For others it's a case of losing faith in the leadership above. Losing one of these great men is forgiveable, losing all three could be considered negligent.

Frank Elkins appointed CEO of Selco and GB Distribution
Grafton Group plc today announces the appointment of Frank Elkins as Chief Executive Officer of Selco and GB Distribution. Frank will join Grafton on 5th August 2024 and will succeed Howard Luft, current Selco CEO, who will leave the business for a new position by the end of August after six and a half years in the role. Frank will also assume overall responsibility for Grafton’s trade distribution business in Great Britain.
Frank is a highly experienced Executive Director with broad experience in the UK building material distribution sector. Until last year, Frank worked with Travis Perkins plc for 12 years in a number of senior roles including Group Chief Operating Officer.
