Love Morgan Melancon's mindset and how she described the Nurse Residency program she built at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Problem: Downward trend with retaining first year nurses. They knew these nurses are looking for engagement and a sense of community. Solutions: 1. Provide shared experiences to give a sense of community. 2. Build confidence outside of work(how to find housing, finances, etc.) 3. SCALE!!! Amplify what's working well And what she said at the end speaks volumes to her work and mindset, "Don't be scared to try." Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gpeesCBw

The Leading Expert in Brain-based Strategic Humor to achieve true success, lasting significance & genuine happiness.
Something as minute as a paragraph can change the course of your life. Or at least it did mine. In 1988 I stumbled across a blurb in the back of a nursing journal about a nurse researcher who had finished her dissertation on humor. I was intrigued and inspired. I went to my instructors and pleaded with them to let me dive deeper into the relationship of humor, health, and communication. They finally gave me the go ahead and I never dreamed that the result would be so transformative. Through my work I eventually got to know, meet, and become friends with Vera Robinson, PhD—self-proclaimed fairy godmother of humor in nursing. Her work paved the way for nurses and healthcare professionals to take a serious look at humor. Before she died, she passed along her “wand” to me and urged me to inform and encourage as many others as I could to harness the power of humor for all the amazing (and amusing) benefits. My book, “What’s So Funny about Nursing?” is the latest effort to fulfill my promise to Vera. It’s not a joke book (although it has some entertaining stories in it), but it is a primer on the use of humor for nurses, healthcare professionals, and their patients. If you’re a nurse, become a student of humor. If you want to experience the transformative power of humor for yourself, order my book today! And if you’re not a nurse, but know/love one, this book would be a great first step and a fabulous gift to your favorite #nursehero. If you’re interested in 10 or more copies, DM me re 40% discount. Or order directly (QR code) from Amazon. Who knows? Humor might transform your life. I know it did mine. #humorhelps #nursinghumor #selfcare #nursesonlinkedin #humorheals #nursesweek

Reflecting on the profound impact we have on others can lead to a transformative journey of self-discovery. It is often astonishing how far-reaching our actions can be, even when we are unaware of their true effects. I vividly remember the moment when Ify, a compassionate new graduate nurse, presented me with a beautifully crafted plaque. Now, it proudly adorns the wall of my office, constantly reminding me of the meaningful connections we create through our actions. I urge you to take a moment today to deeply contemplate the potential influence of your words and deeds on those around you. Let us embrace this heightened awareness as a catalyst for nurturing warmth, especially for new nurses, positivity, and empathy in all our daily interactions. #SelfReflection #ImpactUnknown #SpreadPositivity

Every Nurse Has a Story. It's Time to Listen. Kaden Kalt What is the most important trait or quality a nurse can possess? And why? Compassion. Dealing with people who are sick requires so much compassion. You have to be willing to set aside your feelings in order to feel what your patient is feeling. As a nurse, I think compassion is a huge quality that is necessary for working in this field. Compassion allows you to engage with your patients as a whole fully and to see them as human suffering rather than just another patient. It allows for a connection to the human race that is vital when caring for people’s health problems." Describe a situation where you were especially proud of your healthcare team. "There have been many times that I am proud of my team. It is hard to pick one situation. Working in the ED requires a vast amount of teamwork each day. I am particularly proud of them when we can all come together to do what is best for the patient but also what is best for us as coworkers." We believe these stories are not just inspiring—they’re powerful reminders of the humanity and dedication within the healthcare industry. That’s why we’re launching our #NursesWeek social media campaign: Every Nurse Has a Story. It's Time to Listen. We also want to hear from you. Have you been touched by the incredible care of a nurse? Did a nurse go above and beyond for you or a loved one? Share your #NurseAppreciation story with us in the comments below. 💌

Compassion in healthcare is indeed a powerful force that transcends mere technical skills. 💖 It's the warmth and empathy that truly make a difference in patient care. 🏥 When healthcare professionals go beyond their technical expertise to connect with patients on a human level, they create an environment of trust and comfort. 🌟 Let's celebrate the compassion and dedication of those who make a profound impact on the lives of others every day. #HealthcareHeroes #EmpathyInMedicine #PatientCare
“I would hear time and time again about elements of compassion when they talked about having the best nurse or having an amazing physician,” he said. “I would sort of ask them, ‘What makes that physician, that nurse, that social worker, so amazing? And inevitably, it boiled down to things like, ‘They’re just a really warm human being.’…Sinclair tried to be precise in his definition of compassion. In the report, the term is defined as “a virtuous response that seeks to address the suffering and needs of a person through relational understanding and action….To Sinclair, it means empathy — the ability to understand the interior experience of someone else — powered by a desire to help alleviate their struggle.” https://lnkd.in/gqFskK6s

Nursing is more than a career; it is a calling! A calling is what Merriam-Webster defines as a strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence. There is also a quote that says - "your career is what you’re paid for, your calling is what you’re made for". As a multi-passionate nurse - we were made to walk in our gifts of helps and healing. We are divinely inspired and passionate about: Our Career - Caring for Patients (Directly or Indirectly) Our Community - As a Catalyst for Change Our Connections - (family, friends, and faith): Concerned about their Well-Being Does this resonate with you? Are you a multi-passionate nurse? Let me know in the comments. #selfcarefornurses
