Is a student's offer to work "for free" too good to be true? Maybe! I've written an article about the potential legal exposure companies may face if they treat workers as "unpaid interns" as opposed to regular employees, and discussed a possible approach that may minimize the risk. #employmentlaw #wageandhour #misclassification

News you can use ..
The next decade will bring change in wealth management that's coinciding with (and no less significant than) the "great wealth transfer" from baby boomers to succeeding generations. More than a third of financial advisors will retire — leaving a profession in which nearly three out of every four rookies fail to break into the field — with more than two-fifths of the industry's client assets up for grabs upon the older generation's exit. For our annual Top 40 Brokers Under 40 feature, here's a look at why the industry must hire more young people and career changers and what firms and organizations are doing to help solve the problem, with insights from Nayan Ranchhod, CFP, CRPC, APMA, AAMS of Silver Lining Wealth Advisors and Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC, Andrew Blake of Cerulli Associates, Gigs Taylor-Stephenson, MBA of Wall Street Bound, Inc, Luis Rosa of the BLX Internship Program and Manish Dave of Ameriprise. #professionaldevelopment #financialadvisors #wealthmanagement https://lnkd.in/gZheYrwq

This summer we have 10 wonderful summer associates that have joined us for 10 weeks. The Summer Associates this week got to meet all other summer associates at Capital Group for a summit. We were having so much fun we didn't get a chance to take too many pictures and the one group picture we did take we are missing one of the Summer Associates :). More pictures to come throughout the summer. The Summer Associates heard from many senior leaders and during our business breakout session we spent time with the equity trading team understanding how that part of our business operates. We then had a trading floor tour and learned a lot about Capital Group. The Summer Associates are working on awesome projects and teams. They are working on Smart Automation, Data Engineering, Back-office Accounting Systems, AI and Testing, Investment Group Product Management, Architecture, Client Engineering, Investment Research Tech, Cloud, Networking and Sales and Investment Services to name a few. Second Year Laws Undergraduate at University College London (UCL), Clifford Chance Connect Ambassador, A&O First, SPARK 2024, CEO - AI Amplified
⭐CLIFFORD CHANCE SPARK INSIGHTS⭐: Last week, as part of SPARK, I spent a week learning about Clifford Chance's practice areas, trainee experiences and what it takes to become a trainee at the firm... Here are my biggest takeaways from each day: DAY 1: 🧠HAVE AN OPEN MIND🧠 Truth be told, I came into this week thinking I knew what practice areas I'd be most interested in (eg: Corporate). However during the Global Financial Markets presentation, I was really interested by the numerous investments GFM lawyers present to their clients. It made me realise to not close myself off to new things based on my previous conceptions, you never know what may entice you. DAY 2: 📈 COMMERCIAL AWARENESS IS A PROCESS📈 Idin Sabahipour and his workshop on how to stay commercially aware taught me that you can't just read a couple of articles and expect to be up to date; you must analyse the events that took place beforehand to make it happen and its impact on businesses and firms. I can now apply this to any article I read! DAY 3: 🤲 FIND COMMUNITY 🤲 As a disabled person, I loved hearing what Clifford Chance's ENABLE network had to offer its employees. I felt a sense a community and support within the firm after hearing about the awareness workshops and reasonable adjustments they have for disabled people. DAY 4: 💡DEVELOP YOUR SOFT SKILLS💡 After speaking to the partners on the Partner Panel, I now realise the value of building interpersonal relationships with people during your TC. As much as doing good work gets you far, building bonds with the people your work with gets you further... DAY 5: 🤳 USE SOCIAL MEDIA BETTER 🤳 During my time as Connect Ambassador, I will begin to build my own personal brand and deliver great content for the firm. I will also be more wary about what I put out there and how it reflects on my character. Massive thank you to Chloe Hatchett Sparkes , Toby Horner - Assoc CIPD , Megan Rosendale and Tiana Locker for an amazing week and making me feel truly involved in the firm's activities. More insights to come next academic year as my Connect Ambassador role begins 👀👀
