Congratulations, Joseph Kenner and the Greystone Team- Not just another bakery- a bakery that nurtures souls and heals society. This is one of the most inspiring examples of how business models can be profitable and have a high impact. It's worth exploring Open Hiring in larger industries and impact investing models. 🤔 During my time at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), working in Structured Corporate Finance, I came across industries seeking to transition away from business models not aligned with ESG and OPIM practices. It wasn't just about finances; they needed expertise. I encountered two mining industries facing social and environmental challenges. The intrapreneurs who reached out to us sought our support to innovate within their industries. Would we be open to prototyping innovations that could accelerate their transition from their current business models towards impact business models and possibly close altogether? Although we refused to finance such models, it raised a question – if we turn away, what happens in the meantime? ❓ While I don't endorse greenwashing or supporting outdated practices, I advocate for an open mind. Could experts in social and environmental impact guide these industries towards change if more people were accepting of their current state of operations? Greyston's approach shows us how to consider alternatives (like Open Hiring) that foster innovation and impact in larger industries, particularly those that currently have the biggest negative impact on climate and social unrest.💡🌏 Let's keep an open mind and explore new ways to transition business models towards positive societal and environmental impact. Please share…. I really hope this gets the attention of The Wendy's Company or their GM in Valdosta off of North Oak St. Zion was a manager on duty. We came in with two women, 5 boys, a girl, and an off duty police officer. A man came in and was clearly on something and started being inappropriate with the 16 year old cashier. Too often they can make comments and nothing is done for these young ladies defense. Not this time. Zion made him leave the store (as he should because none of us felt comfortable). The guy changed his tune and kept pushing to let him stay and order, but this manager stood his ground. “Sir, this is a 16 year old child you’re talking too”, was all we had to hear. More managers should stand up for their team and not be afraid of a bad review or getting in trouble. That girl, (who was on her third week working there), will stay a lot longer because she feels valued and respected. Good job Zion.

Jessica grew up right down the road in Fuquay-Varina! If you need a local recommendation, she probably knows a place. Her favorite local businesses are ER Wax Bar in Garner and Leaf Plant Shop🌱 in Clayton. When it’s time to “wine” down, Jessica will stop in at Ladida Wine Shop in Clayton to see what’s new! 🥂 Here are some more fun facts about Jessica! • 💜🏹 As an East Carolina University Alumnae, Jessica’s favorite sports team is the Pirates (but she also likes that guy from the Kansas City Chiefs) • 🏠 She’s a homebody through and through! While the idea of traveling sounds nice, nothing beats a comfy night at home. • 📚 Jessica’s favorite authors are Jodi Picoult and Liane Moriarty. • 🔎 If she could have any other job for the day, she’d be a Forensic Investigator (based on the amount of SVU she’s seen, we think she’s highly qualified) • 🚫 The most important thing Jessica has learned in the last 5 years is that “No is a complete sentence; it doesn’t require justification or explanation. Having boundaries and being true to yourself is where real happiness is and where you find your people.” Finally, when we asked Jessica what her favorite part about working for TSD was, she said it was the people, and getting to work with a team that values what each person brings to the table, while providing her the flexibility to show up as the best version of herself at work and at home.
