Founder | Hello Sono | Point-of-care Ultrasound Expert | POCUS Clip Reviewer | POCUS Program Implementation Expert | Speaker | Educator | POCUS Reimbursement Specialist | Check out the POCUS ROI Calculator👇
Introducing POCUS into a medical practice may seem daunting. Some concerns include lack of time, negative patient perception, and malpractice. How do you introduce POCUS safely and effectively? In a recent webinar by EchoNous, I was fortunate to discuss POCUS adoption with Dr. James McLenna and William Steelman, DO, FACOI. They both successfully implemented POCUS into their #familymedicine and #directprimarycare practices respectively. Here are 5 practical tips from our discussion: 1. Be humble and patient. Most patients will appreciate your commitment to expanding your clinical skills. Mastery takes time – American College of Emergency Physicians POCUS guidelines recommend at least 25 scans of each exam type for competency. 2. Start small by focusing on 1 or 2 POCUS applications initially. No need for advanced measurements when learning basic ultrasound. 3. Order a confirmatory test while learning POCUS and use every imaging test as an opportunity to practice. 4. Learn from other ultrasound users in your field – techs, cardiologists, sports medicine doctors, etc. 5. Stay focused on the benefits of POCUS: enhancing patient care, experience, and provider satisfaction. Small setbacks are part of the learning process. Starting in January 2025 the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (OAS CAHPS) survey will become a mandatory measure in the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Quality Reporting Program, and, we get it, navigating these changes can be difficult. Our regulatory experts are here to take you through the next steps and give you the tools you need to simplify your OAS CAHPS journey. Learn more in our upcoming webinar with our regulatory experts Chrissy Daniels, MS, Chief Experience Officer, Deirdre Mylod, PhD, SVP Research & Analytics, and Eme Augustini, Director of Health Policy & Government Affairs: https://lnkd.in/gAv3j6kw

GP, NHS leader, convener and innovator. Releasing potential, creating joyful and effective teams. Supporting large scale improvement.
🌟You can roll out Accurx... But you can't simply roll out the cultural and leadership context that successfully makes the case for change and manages it as Jacob Haddad describes🌟 I think modern general practice IS something to aim for. And nurturing the leadership and culture for improvement IS something to aim for. But let's not underestimate the complexity of making this change unfold.
“If this was scaled nationally, imagine the impact it could have not only on patient access, but on staff morale and workforce retention.” AccurX spent time at GP surgeries who have returned to first principles on how they run their practice to see what they could learn about better managing incoming patient demand. What they found? ‘a calmness, the waiting room has few people in it, the phone isn’t ringing off the hook, staff have time for tea breaks, and clinical staff have the capacity to see complex patients and even run longer appointments with them’. In this blog, AccurX CEO and co-founder Jacob Haddad writes about the lessons others can learn and shares two key principles which he believes could lead to a improved patient access and a more sustainable model for primary care. #ABMS, #ABNS, #ABIM, #ABPN, #ABR....the #MOC monopoly: unproven, burdensome, unfair, and expensive requirements (for life) to "maintain" board certification while the folks who decided this conveniently grandfathered themselves out of these requirements. This MOC monopoly only distracts #physicians and therefore decreases the quality of patient care. https://lnkd.in/e2i4mqQS

Thrilled to have joined fellow professionals at The Preoperative Association (POA) conference in Manchester yesterday. The convergence of minds from diverse locations offered insights into our shared challenges and opportunities. 🌟 A Couple of Key Themes Emerged ✅ The Persistence of Paper 📄💻 Despite the digital age, many services are still deeply entrenched in paper-based operations. This is partly due to the challenges of operating across sites with disparate Electronic Patient Records (EPRs) and other systems. This reliance on paper not only hampers efficiency but also buries valuable patient data in an inaccessible format. The case for digital transformation could not be clearer, presenting an immense opportunity for systemic improvement. 📄💻 The Reality Chasm 🏆🚑 The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme champions a vision where no patient is scheduled for surgery without being deemed fit. Yet, the reality diverges sharply. Routine elective patients (P3/4) are often rushed through preoperative optimisation in just days, a stark contrast to the ideal pathway. This gap between the envisioned and actual care processes underscores a significant area for development. 🏆🚑 Bridging the Gap 💡🤝 Sharing stories of how services are innovating successfully can offer invaluable guidance. I'm keen to hear your experiences and thoughts. How is your team addressing these challenges? 💡🤝 #DigitalTransformation #PreoperativeCare #GIRFT #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #POAConference Zak Suleman Rammy Arafa Dr Parisa Zarringhalam Will Cook Michael Shenouda Harry Lykostratis Dorota Naumiuk Piyush Mahapatra Daria Markova

Are you trying to successfully implement quantitative train of four (TOF) monitoring at your hospital? Researchers determined that educational interventions with their providers impacted the frequency of TOF monitoring and postoperative patient outcomes. “In summary, our spaced education and retrieval-based practice approach was able to demonstrate the feasibility of changing clinician behaviors and improving the proportion of cases with TOF monitoring. Efforts to increase TOF monitoring are worthwhile as cases with documented TOF were associated with reduced odds of PPCs and 90-day mortality during our study period. Thus, our study continues to underscore the value of novel educational efforts of anesthesia providers about the importance of NMB monitoring as an important patient safety issue that affects post-operative outcomes.” At Blink, our sole focus is advancing the use of quantitative neuromuscular monitors in hospitals worldwide. To enable the success of our hospital partners, we've developed an implementation pathway and multi-part training that we will tailor to your institution’s goals and needs. Our team is with you every step of the way! Medical research and technology are advancing at an unprecedented rate, with breakthroughs in treatments, diagnostic tools, and medical technologies occurring almost daily. While these advancements promise improved patient care, they also create a constantly shifting landscape that healthcare professionals must navigate. Any lag in knowledge and practice can lead to inconsistent care delivery, poor patient outcomes, and even medical errors. Understanding these challenges and finding ways to mitigate them is crucial for improving the healthcare system as a whole. #MedicalAdvancements #HealthcareInnovation #PatientCare #MedicalResearch #MedicalTechnology
