So, I'm with BS in Mathematics - try to sell that - working on the assembly line and machining operation. I keep telling HR that I have a degree. There's bound to be a better use for me. Eventually, they offer me a job as a industrial engineering tech. I think I took a pay cut but life is an adventure.
There's a bunch of good experiences there. Here's one:
So, that means I was task with time studies. The boss was right on the money. He was impressive at industrial engineering.
I remember early on he briefly task the department with scouring the mezzanines for the largest, fanciest desk collecting dust. Fast forward, management went through the inevitable, "people have it too comfortable here, let's mess that up cycle". So the boss is under fire. That dude immediately had us find him the smallest desk in the factory. He called it, "minimizing the target". He went to the competition and got himself another, better job. Then he went into a meeting and intentionally pissed off upper management. So, they were inclined to give him a nice severance package. He had the house sold and collecting two high dollar paychecks right quick.
My hero. Lead by example.
