As the world gears up for Brisbane 2032, sports innovation, broadcasting and entertainment will be on the brink of a major leap. With the recent arrival of new VR/AR tech - there is an opportunity to drastically transform how sports events are experienced by viewers. In a recent blog post, Steve Blank shared his views on product-market fit in this context stating that “the product is an amazing technical tour de force. But the product-market fit of this first iteration is a swing and a miss.” Dr Martin Schlegel has written an opinion article agreeing with this point of view, and arguing that although VR/AR is currently out of reach for mainstream consumers, there’s an opportunity to focus on niche markets to refine and validate technology – before scaling the technology to a wider audience.
