Dear colleague, I live in Magna Grecia, southern Italy and I have studied the history of psychotherapy in these parts. According to my research it seems that the word therapy means care of the soul with the soul (Psyche) and was a skill that the priests in the temples had, somehow connected to the God of medicine Aesculapius. Those wise men had the sacred dowry (hence Priests) and were both men and women. Until the 6th century before Christ, women had equal rights to access all the functions of wisdom or knowledge as men. It seems like a coincidence the fact that in the 6th century BC. the Pythagoreans were massacred and women lost their right to equality. We find some traces of the meaning of therapy in "The Pythagorean Fragments" by Timpanaro-Cardini and Pugliese-Carratelli It seems that the first neurologist in history Alcmaeon of Crotone was the teacher of the teacher of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Alcmaeon was at the school of Pythagoras who is considered the first scientific music therapist in history (Franz Alexander history of psychiatry). Therapy through music was practiced and consciously founded on the principle of love soul harmony (Eros psyche harmony). It is simple to deduce that Psychotherapy was a connection of love and harmony that dissolved the disharmony of discomfort or transformed it. The God of medicine Aesculapius they intervened in dreams that cured ailments (compare the case of Aristide). The wisdom of being was contemplated in the training of doctors, philosophers, politicians, warriors and every scientist-artist. Wisdom of being translates into Greek as Ontosophy but strangely this term disappears in its culture from 2500 to 1600 when it reappears with Clauberg and Genovesi. So we find it again and in the early twentieth century intuited by Maritan the philosopher, and signed by Francesco Palmirotta. And the coincidence is that Maritain also thought he was the first to coin the term Ontosophy. The French philosopher did not know Clauberg and Genovesi.
Like so many therapists, I love conferences. And I'm so fortunate to help craft the coolest conference for therapists on the planet. And I love it when stuff like this happens... We never get it perfect, and I usually look forward to the feedback about how we got it wrong, but the goal is always to balance education with experience (while keeping it affordable). The research I've seen shows when we're in an open, playful state, we learn better. So we not only give a stage to some very interesting trainers, we pepper in a lot of fun, relaxation, and opportunities for connection through the days. So when comedian Colin Quinn (former SNL cast member and Weekend Update anchor) said he had a brand new stand up special that was perfect for therapists AND he hoped to film it with the therapists at Symposium, it was hard to say no. This was JUST confirmed, and I'm really excited to announce that, on top of 75+ clinical workshops, Colin Quinn will be joining us Saturday evening to perform and film his brand new comedy special -- and we'll be some of the first to experience it!
