The panels were installed on an offshore oil and gas platform in the North Sea. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Constructed eight durable frames using high-strength Grade 355 steel, designed to withstand harsh offshore conditions. 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: Our engineering team developed a unique solution for solar panels to track the sun throughout the day using a mechanism inspired by gas struts. This innovation ensures optimal energy capture and efficient use of limited space, without disrupting offshore operations. 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬: The frames successfully support five solar panels on each frame, providing a reliable and efficient power source to integrate seamlessly into the platform’s infrastructure. This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in overcoming complex engineering challenges in demanding environments. Rooftop PV installations have a complex array of codes and standards they must adhere to for local approvals and systems' long-term safety, quality, and functionality. While Mayfield Renewables often focuses our expertise on the National Electrical Code, structural standards are just as important to stay up to date on current requirements. Changes to ASCE 7-22, recently adopted in Florida and included in the 2024 IBC, impact requirements for ballasted racking systems. ASTM 1761 testing methods impact the pull-out strength required for decking attachments. Many current racking and attachment products may not comply with these structural updates. In this #AskMayfieldAnything, Ryan Mayfield will be joined by structural experts Ryan Estrada of UNIRAC, Matt Kuzila of Enstall, and Paymon Eskandanian, S.E., P.E. of Laguna Consulting Engineers. They will shed light on important structural updates to be aware of. As states begin to adopt these updates, structural engineers of record and AHJs will be looking for compliance, racking, and attachment manufacturers need to ensure their products are updated, and developers need to be sure their specified products will be approved. ✔☀ Register in the link below for an informative webinar about evolving structural standards impacting rooftop PV systems. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/g6jCA9bp #AMA #StructuralStandards #AHJ #Manufacturers #Developers #Solar #PVracking #RenewableEnergy #RooftopPV

Yep, there's A LOT going on when installing foundations for a battery energy storage installation 😮 It's undeniably impressive to see countless trades working together for maximum efficiency. In this case our crews were turning-in helical piers at the same time other contractors mounted BESS units on the already installed piers. We could do this because helical piers are ready for immediate loading, meaning foundation and finishing work was able to happen concurrently. Plus their precise, quiet, and vibration-free nature makes them much safer to install on busy sites. Could be a tough thing to achieve with other solutions 🤔 (Just sayin') #bess #energystorage #renewableenergy #solar #utilities #engineering

Uniper awards design studies to two major contractors for its Grain Carbon Capture project! "Uniper has awarded Technip Energies and Aker Carbon Capture process design package (PDP) contracts to deliver its technology and design studies for the Grain Carbon Capture project. Both companies will participate in a competition to engineer the carbon capture technology and plant design needed for the project to move to the front end engineering and design (FEED) phase, ahead of a final investment decision, which is expected to be taken in the mid-2020s. The project is a proposal to retrofit post combustion carbon capture technology on up to three units of the existing 1,326MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant at Grain power station, in the Southeast of England. It has the potential to remove over 2 million tonnes of CO2 per year during the electricity generation process, representing over 7 per cent of the UK government’s 2030 target to capture up to 20-30 Mt CO2 per year across the economy, to help meet the UK’s target of net zero by 2050." Building a PV power plant is a dynamic undertaking, so paying maximum attention to the design process is crucial. This is especially important to note because the process begins with racking. Racking is not only the foundation and skeleton of the whole system, but the ability of the mounting systems and trackers to maintain a steady performance affects the entirety of the module’s lifespan. They also have to be custom-made, which makes them design-intensive. Our engineering services include expert engineers who can offer the right design advice to build industry-standard PV power plants.
