Non-compete agreements for employees are soon to be banned in the US. This means employees will be free to work for competitors after leaving their current job. However, this doesn't necessarily mean non-compete agreements between companies will also be banned. It is yet to be seen if the rest of the world will follow the US's lead in banning non-compete agreements for employees. What do you think? FTC bans noncompete agreements! Wow! That's quite a change...   The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a final rule to ban noncompete agreements. That's big news! The rule is effective 120 days from publication, meaning sometime this summer. You can read the FTC announcement here, which also links to the Final Rule.   Generally, a noncompete agreement favors the employer (the business owners, the managers, the government contracting company) rather than the employee. The employee signs the noncompete agreement to get the job. The noncompete agreement forbids the employee from working at similar companies or within similar industries for one or two years after leaving, sometimes limited to a geographic area.
