This is great personal property tax info for Alabamians from Bruce P. Ely https://lnkd.in/e_rq8rsG
Do you or your clients sell or lease tangible personal property subject to AL sales, seller's use or rental tax to entities or organizations that are exempt from the tax either because it's a wholesale sale or they are statutorily exempt? And remember, under AL law, having 501(c)(3) status doesn't automatically qualify you as a sales tax-exempt entity. On 10/31, AL DOR issued a timely reminder that, for the protection of both seller/lessor and buyer/lessee, the latter must renew annually their TAX ACCOUNT LICENSE between now and Dec. 31- PERIOD. It's not a painful process (visit AL DOR's website) but we have seen very little grace extended by either AL DOR or self-administered local governments to the hapless client who in good faith sold goods to a buyer holding an expired license. Please warn your sales tax people/clients of this potentially costly foot-fault!
